Thanks for starting the thread. Like you I used to be an avid 5live fan but have now departed apart from the football where the coverage is usually good. I say usually because the commentators are good and some of the summarisers like Chis Waddle are first class. However it seems that "celebrity" culture is arriving as Robbie Savage has arrived to spread his lack of knowledge about the game.
As to the rest of the schedule it was people like Richard "it's all about me" Bacon who drove me away. Still enjoy Up All Night when Rhod does it though. The World Football Phone In can be good if people get to talk about football and not listening to yet another Dotun anecdote. |

I'd be interested to know what others feel about this, but I have really enjoyed the breakfast show over the past few days.
Somehow the mood is lighter without Nicky. Rachel and Claire blend in well with George and the rest of the team. I know we get accused of Nicky bashing on here and people posting that, whatever he does, he will never please some people. But, I genuinely think it is a far better listen with Claire and Rachel. I would move Nicky to mid mornings. |

It does seem odd that Nicky hasn't been given the 10am slot which would be good for both him and the listener. A chance to do some in-depth interviews and also a chance to do light stuff as well
I agree about Breakfast being a better listen when he's not there which surprises me as I like him as a broadcaster |

I tuned in to the late news hour the other day and it was good to hear actual reports on the station for a change. Why can't we have that sort of service in drive too?

As to the rest of the schedule it was people like Richard "it's all about me" Bacon who drove me away. the celebrity obsession...the total wholesale twitter religion..(had to think something stronger than obsession) it's ridiculous.... and unlike you and others I detest football...it bores me to tears... it bores me even more the ridiculously insignificant injury/managerial/petty squabbles and childlike gossip of every soccer minutiae ... and the constant adverts that they are a sport station...no...they aren't...sport consisting of football, football, football, cricket, some golf, some tennis and bit of athletics....that's not a sports station... talksport is no better I can't listen to that either..... ![]() that's what probably switched me off even more than Nolan et al.....

Getting fed up with programmes and trailers full of clips of shouting commentators.

About how people have coped with death or a loved one dying.. I know it happens and is sad but they could have a more jolly subject I am sure! |

Stephen Nolan and Charissa Chadderton have absolutely no connection at all. Maybe its becuase she is probably in Salford and him in Northern ireland, but there is no acknowledgement between them that either of them are anywhere.
Nolan is totally unsuited to breakfast, but now the phone in is underway he is in his element. The fact fact we are talking gloom and despondency probably only adds to his glee. Maybe with the sad deaths of people like George Michael and Liz Smith it is the topic for the morning. However, in broadcasting terms, he seems to really struggle with people being happy. There's nothing Stephen Nolan appears to like more than a good bit of bad news. |

It was a pre-recorded programme, so please don't phone, text or email, but I really enjoyed the Danny Baker "Best of the callers" programme this morning.

I know radio is a personal thing, so these are three things that would make my Five Live listening a better listening experience in 2017.
1) A better investment financially into mid morning and afternoon programmes to allow more reporters to report on events around the country. There seems to be a shortage of stories which never used to be the case. Five Live needs to have more of a "happening station" feel during the day. 2) Move Nicky off breakfast, please, just do it! Perhaps to mid-morning. 3) Create more business features. It seems to me that one of the real gems in the schedule is Wake Up To Money and it is finished by 0600 in a morning. It should be shorter, allowing a second edition around lunchtime. Perhaps with the reinstatement of the News Hour. I know I said three things but, I would also like to see the end of the womens agenda in mid morning, better interviewing in mid afternoon (one person should interview the guest, it is pointless having two people going in different directions all the way through the interview) and a regular place, perhaps at weekends, for Adrian Goldberg. I much prefer him to Stephen Nolan. But Nolan is said to be the Speech Broadcaster of the Year so there's little chance he will be moved. But Adrian Goldberg deserves a better and longer run out. What would make Five Live a better experience for you in 2017.? |

An even greater improvement would be the getting rid of that crashing bore Dotun Adebayo MBE ( honored with a gong for some reason or another for which I can't quite work out ...) who's ego gets in the way of his presenting and seems to think that UAN is actually all about him. |

Very much agree with what you say The excellent Wake Up To Money is wasted at that time in the morning and yes there should more reporting from around the country , which 5Live was very good at when the station first started.Adrian Goldberg is a far superior broadcaster than Nolan will ever be despite him being handed vanity awards.
Also, I was pleased to hear that Duncan Barkes got some cover work for Stephen Nolan on 5 Live the other night. I've not heard much of him recently, with him doing evening stints on LBC and now BBC Radio London, but I enjoyed his most recent stint on talkSPORT before that station switched to an all-sport format. Would be happy to hear more of both Goldberg and Barkes on 5 Live. |

Radio Five Live is dreadfully downbeat and dreary most of the time. It really is victim radio at it's worse.

At least 5live got its favourite topic racism as its main headline for the news this evening- The station does sod all else in the news reporting stakes these days

Loving Claire and Rachel at breakfast. I know it has been said many times in radio that two women together doesn't work. Not that there is any reason it shouldn't and these two prove the rule.
Sadly, the norm returns on Monday and I for one am seriously thinking of changing my allegiance as Nicky on breakfast just winds me up. It is time to try something new. |

.....What would make Five Live a better experience for you in 2017.? Fewer presenters - I find the male/female two hander thing clumsy, embarrassing and patronising. Top Bantz it isn't. More news reports and less Chat Magazine style 'Reader's Stories'. |
