Throughout the weekend, the coverage of the referendum and the sport has been tremendous. Five Live at its very best.

I didn't see the point of having Claire in Middlesbrough today, she wasn't used anything like enough and maybe the Eurocall should have been extended the other way and started at nine, but these are just production points. All in all, it has been exemplary coverage and I found myself switching off the football on the TV and eager to get back to the radio last night because I didn't want to miss anything.

Here's a slightly critical comment. I think 5 Live is looking for opportunities to stir things and choosing sensation over accuracy at times.

That said, the amount of coverage over the weekend has been brilliant.

thought they might have done live coverage of Joshua fight tonight
I was hoping for this too. It wasn't on Talksport either.

Perhaps 5Live were saving their budget?

Or with the ring walk originally scheduled for 22.30 perhaps they feared the Euro 2016 game that evening would go to pens and extra time and prevent them going over to the boxing in time?

We will need to put a stop to all of that!!!! Seriously, though I listened to Nicky over the weekend and he seemed very focused on the issues rather than how good he can look portraying the issues. I'm not having a go at him. It's just what he does!

But he was really good and I enjoyed the programmes enormously. I have to say I can do without putting two and three callers at a time on so they can speak with each other. Stephen Nolan seems to like this too, but sometimes you can't tell a word they are saying as they all talk all over each other.

I think all the programmes seem to have taken the view that we should look at these stories from the viewpoint of the listeners and I like the way they have tried to get as many real life stories and experiences on to the air.

This morning, with Adrian Chiles at College Green, he was very good. Alert and alive to it all and coming at it from a very "man of the people" type angle. Many mornings he sounds like he hasn't got up yet. But he was really good today.

I quite like this idea of let's have a bit of news and then let's have a bit of tennis approach to the afternoon as well. I think they should think about this in future years.

To my mind, Five Live has been a standard bearer of how these things should be done in a modern world. Radio Four still seems to want to wait until the newsreader can be bothered to tell you that the world is collapsing around us.

I know people like to say news events are boring, but when handled like Five Live have over the last few days, news events are very entertaining. I truly hope that these last few days have secured Five Live's future and when the BBC do eventually unveil their big plan for the next few years, Five Live remains not only untouched in terms of budget, but secures extra finance so they don't have to keep reverting to midnight phone ins which are not worthy of them.

Yes, another post praising 5Live's coverage hear. I have listened on and off most of the weekend, its been my default station which is something I haven't been able to say for a while.
I don't think the coverage has been sensationalised at all, I think its been pretty balanced... for sensationalist coverage LBC is where its at.
I think the mixing and matching approach with Wimbledon and Breaking news has worked well this afternoon, I wouldn't want it like this every year but when there is a fast-moving news event then this is the best way to cover it. fascinating times indeed, covered brilliantly by 5Live, showing they can still deliver when they want to.

5Live has been terrific since last Friday. It has really shown how well the BBC can cover events of such magnitude. It can call on so many correspondents with experience and gravitas and, because of its reputation and standing, it gets interviews with the people right at the heart of the events.

It will be interesting to see how they deal with the aftermath of England's defeat at the Euros. Another event of seismic proportions.

Last night Phil Williams took a call from someone called Steve Wilson and said it was the MOTD commentator, but it sounded nothing like him! I'm wondering if anyone else picked up on this, was someone pretending to be Steve Wilson?

I agree, Radio 5 has been so much better these last few days ( Chris Mason is a vast improvement on John Pienar )

I just hope it doesn't slip back into it's old bad habits, ie the 10.am-1pm programme sounding like VD's old show , but I'm not holding my breath !

No tennis at Wimbledon? Not even on centre court? That's the impression I get fromm listening to 5 Live. Two presenters there, loads of commentators, one match going on, no commentary.

It was put on Extra whilst 5Live are having a 2 hour chunk of rolling news. Probably till the Federer v British guy match.

Sorry, but I'm finding Anna Foster from the Janet and John school of journalism. She asked the most absurd question to a Polish reporter in Brussels, who replied "Ofcourse!", and sounded affronted at the inanity, and being treated like an idiot.

Am not a fan of either her grasp of facts or her voice.

With the future of the country in a state of flux, then surely who hits a tennis ball harder, faster or further must take second place to rolling news.

5live has done a good job as far as it goes, it ought to be 24 hour news. There is 5live sports extra which is one of those "clue is in the title" names!

But they were talking about ennis between 1 and 2.

If they want to focus on rolling news, why have two main presenters at Wimbledon?

The second match was moved to Sports Exxtra, but only because it was raining at the cricket. It got more coverage on 5 Live than the first match.

If a Euro 2016 match was taking place at that time, they wouldn't broadcast 45 minutes of football chat during the first half from the stadium instead of the match.

Why? Has something time-critical and important about this happened since the patball started today?

Does anyone know what has become of Rhod Sharp. I especially miss his interactions with Doctor Karl.

I like the new Wake Up To Money - Sports Edition....much better than what went on before. The Non League Show always seemed to me to be a club I hadn't enrolled for.

However, I did feel a bit sorry for Caroline Barker. Had she been listening to breakfast late last week she would have heard Nicky Campbell going on endlessly about how he had missed his old mucker George on the day he had off. At one point, Nicky did offer the caveat that "Caroline was her usually great self", which did little to disguise that Nicky took a dim view that his bromance with "Georgie" was interrupted. Anyone else spot that?

I'm also of the growing opinion that something must happen to retain Claire O'Donnell, but I also feel that should not in any way hinder the return of Rachel who I really like as well.

I thought Duncan Barkes did a decent job. Dotun Adebayo on the other hand...

I think Rhod returns this week.
