Problem In Connecting Soundbar And Tv Help Please

I have a SamsungTV model UE50F6 100AK and a Samsung sound bar model HW-F450

im trying to connect them so the sound bar works instead of the tv speakers, i have connected the tv to the soundbar via an optical lead but wonder if i need to change a setting in the tv somewhere or maybe there is a setting on the soundbar itself? the soundbar also has a subwoofer which is powered by a 240volt supply but does this need to be connected via a cable or is it wireless not sure?

When you use Optical all you have to do is turn the TV volume down and then use the soundbar remote to control the volume.

For anything more specific on the TV then consult the E-Manual built-into the TV. (Grab the TV remote and press the E-Manual button)

Your sub is wireless. The Samsung box will probably have made mention of this, and the user manual certainly does. If you can't be arsed finding the manual then download it from the Samsung web site http://www.samsung.com/us/support/ow...uct/HW-F450/ZA

Is there an HDMI ARC option. If so, as both units are Samsung, they should talk to each other and in that case you just use your TV remote and the TV speakers will automatically mute. On Sony TVs you can select TV speakers or AV via the options menu as well, I suspect Samsung have something similar.

From the information on the Samsung website the sound bar has ARC but the TV doesn't. Looks like Optical is the only option.

Just out of interest Chris, if the o/p added an HDMI cable to his set up would that enable Samsung's equivalent of Bravia sync to control the sound bar from the TV remote. The reason I ask is that I use an old, pre ARC, Sony surround sound system with built in DVD player with a Sony HX series TV. HDMI sends the DVD pictures to the TV but I have to have an optical connection from the TV for its sound and PVR etc connected to it. Bravia sync, presumably via the HDMI, controls the surround sound unit volume via the TV remote. The TV also wakes up the surround system, and sets it to the appropriate input when it is turned on.

He would still need the optical cable, the HDMI would just be for control purposes.

The manual available from Samsung for the TV

http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/model/UE50F6100AKXXU

makes no mention of any sort of HDMI control that I can see. Samsung call their flavour of HDMI-CEC Anynet, a word that does not occur in the manual. The "Troubleshooting" section does have a bit about turning on the TV with a DVD/Blu-Ray remote but then goes on to talk about programming in a code on the device remote. Which sort of implies it doesn't do control over HDMI.

Thanks Chris, it was just a thought.
