Apologies if there's been a thread on this before.

Ok so I fancy chip shop style chicken curry over chips this week so which is the most authentic in a jar or mix that I can get please?

PS I don't want Chinese curry.

Bisto do a Chip Shop Style Curry Sauce.
Probably granuals
No mention of Chinese.

Just thought our chippy does a curry sauce I could ask him where he gets it from, or what make it is, another thought he probably buys it in bulk

I have a horrible feeling that the sugar, salt and fat content of most chip shop curry sauces would be right off the scale.

Not sure how you separate the two as Chip Shop cyrry sauce and bogo standard Chinese chicken curry are pretty much the same.

As said, most supermarkets stock Chip Shop curry sauce granules/gravy and some imported products

I'm not sure how many people are going to the chippy and getting chips and curry sauce and worrying about the salt and fat in it.

Asda do their own chip shop curry sauce granules. Just as good are their pepper sauce granules.

Mayflower curry sauce tastes like chip shop curry sauce but it is Chinese tasting but suppose it depends on which chip shop you buy your sauce from to what it tastes like.
Mayflower is sold in shops like B & M and Home Bargains at £1 a box for 9 portions.

Thanks for the responses.

Quite a few people I know have recommended the granules and also here so I'll give them a try, one added plus is that you can make the sauce up to the thickness you want.

I like this one for dipping my chips in

I don't like the chinese style curry sauce at all.

I used some Patak's tikka masala curry paste with a spoon of garam masala and a tin of coconut milk thrown in and it was fab, like a really good old school pub or canteen style chicken curry. It didn't taste very indian style curry at all but was a nice blast from the past.
Keeping the lid off for the last while thickens it up too.

Go to Amazon and search Dinaclass curry. It's the leading brand chip shops use.

Chip shop curry sauce isn't the same everywhere. My favourite around here has bits of onion and sultana in it.

I don't want uber authentic curry sauce but I really don't like those fluorescent orange, smooth and totally artificial ones.

There are different variations. Hot, with sultanas, without sultanas and vegetarian. Dinaclass is the brand leader. My chippy uses Middletons. It's the number 2 brand but I like it better as it is more to my taste. I don't have the one with sultanas in as they sink to the bottom of the Bain Marie if you don't keep stiring it when it goes quiet.

If they wanted to make it themselves they would not have asked for "chip shop".
