So what's the point of this storyline then? I'm assuming there is one, bar him trying to make a bit of spare cash (since the scrap metal thing seems to have been forgotten).

Is he going to have a horrific car accident? The hospital set hasn't been seen for a couple of weeks...

I thought the scrap metal thing was to fund him getting his taxi driver licence in the first place as you have to pay for it

Oh yeah, probably. Daft a'p'orth. Though you'd think we'd have had a few more scenes of the house swimming in t'scrap metal.

To be honest Ty and Fizz's hovel always looked like a rubbish tip anyway even before he started collecting scrap.

At least have him become an uber driver to show that Corrie is partially aware of what is going on in 2016.

I doubt they'd be allowed to mention something like Uber unless it was a product placement deal. They'd have to change it to something "Hiya"/"Moxy"-like, like "Oop-er"

"Oop-er" works. Whatever could they be referring to?

I really thought that this storyline would end with Tyrone being fined for scrap dealing without a licence and Fiz declaring they would be eating dust for the next two years. It doesn't make sense that he was dealing to get money to pay for a taxi licence when you need a similar amount for a scrap dealer's one. Thought that was going to come to a head when Norris reported him that time. That's how I'd have written it anyway.

I believe it's a Taxi company.

It took me ages before I found out what it was. What a stupid name. I hate 'new' words, that don't relate to anything, especially those beginning with a vowel. Is it pronounced 'yuber' or 'oober'?

There is a lot of controversy surrounding Uber in that anyone can sign up to be a driver they don't need to have a Taxi drivers licence or any criminal record checks done, I wouldn't want to use them that's for sure.

It's an equal opportunity taxi service that employs independent drivers. That includes the likes of Phelan and Fiz. Can you imagine being picked up by Fiz for that often mentioned airport run. I would rather be picked up and take my chances with the Boston strangler. As for all the Phelan haters on this forum I hope he picks you up and recognize's you then throws a hoop into you. It would make my day to see footage of your bodies strewn at the side of the highway from coronation st to the airport. I may sound callous but better that than Fizz.

uber
prefix (also uber-) UK /uː.bər-/ US /uː.bɚ-/
used before nouns to mean "extreme" or "extremely good or successful"

Origins
The crossover of the term "über" from German into English goes back to the work of German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. In 1883, Nietzsche coined the term "Übermensch" to describe the higher state to which he felt men might aspire. The term was brought into English by George Bernard Shaw in the title to his 1903 play Man and Superman. During his rise to power, Adolf Hitler adopted Nietzsche's term, using it in his descriptions of an Aryan master race. It was in this context that American Jewish comic book creator Jerry Siegel encountered the term and conceived the 1933 story "The Reign of the Superman", in which the superman (not to be confused with his later superhero character) is "an evil mastermind with advanced mental powers". Shortly afterward, Siegel and artist Joseph Shuster recast Superman into the iconic American hero he subsequently became. It is through this association with the superhero that the term "über" carries much of its English sense implying irresistibility or invincibility.
Hardly a new word.

I think this would make the grade of throwing a hoop into somebody, it covers giving or returning.

There is a lot of controversy surrounding Uber....
Manufactured controversy, generated by black cab drivers who have been fleecing passengers for years - like latter day Dick Turpins - and now find their wretched monopoly finally, thankfully, being challenged.

I notice you didn't quote all of my post, do you dispute the bit about not having taxi licence and no background checks being done?
