Why aren't soaps allowed to mention Facebook, Google etc?

..well, Corrie at any rate. Beth looking up "buddy.co.uk" or whatever it was last night was a bit naff.

I've no doubt "other social networks are available", but it's quite clearly supposed to be Facebook...

ED and CS rarely mention any brands, even the ones that sponsor them. It would be unfair to give free promotion to other brands. The BBC don' t advertise at all I wonder if they even use the word ' hoover' or would they say ' vaccuum ' as a matter of course?

I have heard Eastenders and Hollyoaks mention Facebook and Snapchat. Although you never actually see them on screen, whenever they need to show something like it it's always a knock off version.

product placement rules, product licensing rules, copyright laws.

they would have to cough up cash to use facebook logos, show the website etc so by doing there own fake version they keep costs down.

now that they can do product placement more easily it might change but can't really see hat benefit it would be to the likes of facebook, twitter etc, unlike brands like Nokia who know that getting their phones on screen will equal more sales

Robbie in ED mentioned Facebook when Cameron took Sarah, saying they have found her.

Product placement is rife in Emmerdale. The car's and David's shop quite often has a high street brands on display. But these companies pay ED to do this, I don't suppose ED want to pay whatever the rate is to mention Facebook or Google but I agree it is silly they websites soaps 'supposedly' use
