Corrie - Sean Tully
If Sean decided to go out for a day in Blackpool with his gobshite friend Beth, and characters started making remarks constantly about him turning straight and sleeping with her, it would be classed as homophobia and being offensive.
Yet it is okay to constantly go on about Tim and Kevin being gay and potentially sleeping with each other. The "joke" began to wear really thin. On the subject of Sean he is the most odious character ever. He is like a male version of Michelle, all "me me me" and his needs. But in defense of Michelle at least Kym Marsh can act better and isn't in your face in almost every scene. It is obvious Sean is the pet favourite of the producers and they class him as an iconic character, which couldn't be further from the truth. It's outstanding why someone like Billy - who is depicted as caring and thoughtful - would want this self centered bastard. It would be a good storyline if he left Sean, but then again we have to keep adding to his ego so it is unlikely to happen. If Corrie think I am meant to feel terrible because he can't go on his stupid holiday then think again, he isn't likeable in the slightest. |

Completely agree with you...he's getting worse. Selfish, self-centred and polar opposite to lovely Billy. Sean's so wrapped up in his own self that he doesn't even realise Billy is obviously troubled. Or, he does realise and uses it as a stick to beat him with because Billy is not devoting all his attention to Sean.
Grrr. I know he gets a lot of flack on here, he doesn't normally bother me too much. He works okay as a background character but as soon as he's centre-stage he becomes unbearable. |

He is beyond childish no character development at all in the last 10 years.
There is no way someone like Billy would be with him. |

Horrible character. Dreadful actor. No reason for him to be there.
Yet, he is! And keeps getting his contract renewed! There's some very dodgy internal politics at Corrie which stops it from progressing. |

I'm assuming the joke came from the writers not Sean or for that matter the rest of the factory employees that gleefully joined in with it.

....And he's far too old for that jacket - Actually, that is quite a realistic touch because Sean is so deluded he would wear that jacket, but it's the definition of faint praise, surely -
'Awful character, but the jacket kinda rings true'. |

Antony Cotton /Sean Tully school of acting!
Dress in outdated tight, loud clothes, (Jimmy Somerville has moved on! ). Walk with a totter as if you are wearing stilletos. Deliver every line as if you are spitting it at the audience. Screw your face like you are sucking a lemon after each line. Tip your head backwards and look down your crinkled nose. Flick your head as you turn away. With the right management support, these predictable and lazy characteristics should last many years. If anyone criticises you cry HOMOPHOBIA! Antony, where's your character development?

He should have been axed years ago. He's long past his sell by date.

He's not my favourite character but people need to stop saying "He needs to leave" there's no reason for him to leave just because he's unpopular on here doesn't automatically mean he's unpopular elsewhere.

I do find his attitude to Billy's work incredibly selfish and ignorant.
Does he truly not understand that Billy's work is not just a job but a vocation and will often have to come before any personal relationship. Booking a holiday for them without checking what commitments were already in place (wedding, christenings to name 2 obvious things which are booked months in advance) boggles my mind, but he acts hard done by when Billy refuses to go. And yes Sean, a parishioner might do something inconvenient like be dying if and when you rebook said holiday. His flock, can't regiment their lives round your holiday plans. That is the reality of being a vicar's 'wife' + your job is to support them so they can help others. It's a hard job, one that requires sacrifices and selflessness and if he can't accept that, he should,'t be with him. |

Dreadful and pointless character and should be dropped as soon as possible.
Has absolutely no storylines of his own, just seems to crash everybody else's scenes. I think a great storyline would be for the chap that is extracting money from Billy who turns out to be

Hated the way that he was acting like a poor man's Bet Lynch, holding court in the Rovers on Monday's second episode.

I am beyond confused as to why he hasn't been axed. Although the same could be said of Fiz and Kirk as well.

He was an interesting character 12 years ago, but he's dull as dishwater now. I don't imagine he'll ever get the axe (he's extremely popular on social media and amongst audiences), but it's clear he can't be trusted with the meaty storylines. Keep him in the background if we must... |

To be fair, his recent prominence at the Rovers is probably due to them needing to write Bev Callard out with no notice. That's why Erica is suddenly working there again as well.

For me that's the fundamental issue I have with Sean. In the Rovers, he's just a lazy caricature of yesteryear barmaids.....particularly Bet and Raquel. I remember the actor saying he's never wear leopard print, yet Sean's been seen in it a few times, with occasional smatterings of 'what can I get you, cock?'

I don't imagine he'll ever get the axe (he's extremely popular on social media and amongst audiences), but it's clear he can't be trusted with the meaty storylines. Keep him in the background if we must... ![]() ![]() The problem is, I just can't decide if these affectations are down to the writers/production team or Cotton himself. A large part of me thinks that it was Cotton who introduced them in the first place and now argues that 'that's the way Sean speaks' so they make their way into scripts. Interestingly, the scenes in the Rovers on Monday night with Sean behind the bar and the Websters 'forgiving' Jenny Bradley because she saved Jack from the tram felt like an exact copy of a scene from 1989 featuring Bet and Alan Bradley. Tina (the new barmaid at the Rovers) was being taunted by the workmen from the building site opposite and Alan stepped in to get them to leave her alone. Alan broke up a fight in the pub and some of the customers flocked around to give him a pat on the back. The camera cut to Bet behind the bar who said: 'Welcome back Alan Bradley, all is forgiven'. That was basically the same scene on Monday with Sean as 'Bet' ![]()
