Soap firsts?
After reading the latest edition of inside soap magazine today about Maddy in home and away having to have her arm amputated it said it was a soap first as it's the first ever soap character to lose an arm.
It got me thinking what other soap first's is there? I know Brookside probably hold the record for the most soap first's, but I would be really interested to know some more. |

In ED Lawrence & Bernice's sexless marriage, to my knowledge that hasn't been done before.

Wasn't Coronation Street the first to have a teenage pregnancy storyline (Sarah)?
I know it's been done again recently with Leela/Peri in Hollyoaks but wasn't EastEnders the first to have a sister actually being a daughter storyline (Kat/Zoe)? |

I think Sarah was the first underage pregnancy. Michelle was 16 and at legal age.

The Maddy story on Home and Away is actually quite upsetting and I have never been a fan of the character. When she was told she would have to lose her arm was absolutely horrifying

Corrie did the first live episode in 2000 (I'm not counting the first episodes as these were live anyway).
Which soap had the first two hander? I'm thinking EastEnders for some reason. |

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossroads_(soap_opera) Sandy Richardson was injured in a car accident in 1972 and need to use a wheelchair, the first paraplegic regular character in British soap opera (by coincidence, actor Roger Tonge himself later ended up using a wheelchair). |

Was Hollyoaks the first to have a serial killer storyline with Toby Mills or was there one before that on another soap?

Australian soap Number 96 was the first soap to have a gay couple. Initially Don Finlayson and Bruce Taylor were an item (in 1972). Later Don was with Dudley Butterfield for a lengthy period (1974-1976) followed by a brief relationship with Rob Forsyth. Don was in the series its entire 1972-1977 run.
96 also had a serial killer (the Pantyhose murderer) in 1974. Rob himself was later revealed as a psycho with a split personality - but he fell victim to his own booby trap set to kill Don. 96's Arnold Feather lost a leg after being injured in a parcel bomb explosion (1973). |

Where Emmerdale the first soap to kill off a high number of characters in one storyline? In the plane crash there was 4 regular characters killed! Is that the most number of characters killed in a storyline at a time?

Don Brennan in Coronation Street had his foot amputated
I think they are being specific about which limb it is being a first rather than amputation. |
