The thing is Grant and Sharon could have banged in 2005 but for some reason the writers never did it. Denny being Grant's son would have been so much more exciting but I suppose Denny is at least a direct blood link to Den.

The original plan was for Sharon and Grant to have sex in the Queen Vic kitchen when Grant returned in 2005 (and Sharon to fall pregnant with his child) but John Yorke apparently vetoed it. This was also apparently one of the reasons Tony Jordan later left the show.
It would have been a dynamite storyline, but seeing as Letitia Dean was leaving the show indefinitely it would have been a bit pointless. I'm also glad that Sharon and Dennis stayed faithful each other and that their story remains intact.
They can't retcon Denny as Grant's child because we know that Dennis is his father.

Ah I thought i had read it before. Why on earth did Yorke veto it? the only reason I can think of is like I said in my post so that the show had a blood line to Den? but they had Vicki..
They should have done it. Can you imagine if that came out now! would be epic.

I much perfer a direct blood link to Den, the only thing missing is the Watts surename which i was hoping it would get changed to at some point.

I'm glad it was vetoed. It would have made a mockery of the 2 year Sharon/Dennis storyline and given the way the show has written her and Denny I don't think there would have been any great difference if he was a Mitchell.

Sharon falling pregnant was a way of making Denis's death more tragic.
