Never been fond of her myself. Mainly as an actress, not as a person.

But one story about her that didn't sit right with me was her treatment towards Kathy Burke. Kathy said in her early days of her career, Caroline booed her off stage and shouted out "kathy burke, not funny". To which Kathy replied "well neither are you"
But is that true? I'm a huge Kathy Burke fan and not at all a fan of Quentin but the context may be missing and surely it's possible that she may have said that ironically?

Is there a link to this story?

it seems she always plays the role of smug cold woman and maybe that is making her seem slugger than she really is
could this be a freudian slip based on her figure

could it be comments here stem from her overweight looks more that anything she's said and done, maybe like this euphemism set:
nice personality- fat
bubbly- gobby and fat
smug- content being fat

I can't stand her and smug is exactly the word to describe her.
She's the same whether in character or out of it.....that condescending, know-it-all attitude.
The only fault with the fabulous Dickensian series was the casting of her as Mrs Bumble.

Never liked her and to be honest I don't think Paul Merton was ever quite the same man after their separation. I was quite young at the time, but looking back on it now she seemed to use his status a bit. I remember her singing quite a long song in french at the end of an episode of Paul Merton's sketch show, which I found random and out of place even as a child. Still, I haven't read his autobiography so I don't really know much about their relationship it's just something I've picked up on.

Eh? No Freudian slip there, smartphone keypad and my fat Fingers or stupid auto correct. Considering i've been defending her no fatism from me. By the way I think she's very attractive ...for a fat bird &#128540

I could be utterly wrong, but wasn't his second wife Caroline's understudy and he dated her very soon after the separation?

She used to write a column for a magazine and described her career as 'showing off for money'.
If that's not enough to put you off her.
This is called self deprecating humour and not remotely smugness.

They got on well as far as I'm aware. Kathy is a master of wry humour and I am sure that story was testament to that.

I'm not much of a fan of Caroline and her career but that is mainly because I've never liked anything she has been in. I must say I have never noticed her being smug.

I have absolutely no idea! I don't really know much about their relationship but that's very interesting if true! Has anyone here read Paul Merton's autobiography? I'd be quite interested in what he had to say in his own words. I think it's because I've always had fond childhood memories of what I think was a much happier Paul Merton in his old (classic, criminally underrated if you ask me) sketch show: Paul Merton: The Series. But he has suffered with depression which is probably more to do with his change in demeanor over the years and quite unrelated to Caroline Quentin, regardless I still don't care for her much.
