@JayneSeckerSky Greek defence minister says #EgyptAir plane was "in Egypt airspace at 37,000 feet and made sudden swerves."

its worrying, so many muslims work at airports and you never know who is going to turn..
Well you know who won't turn, which is a start. Non-muslims, for example, will never become Islamic terrorists. True?

Because people are speculating as to whether 66 missing people have either been blown up or shot down or this or that based on no evidence. It's incredibly disrespectful to them and their families.
I doubt if the friends and families are frantically searching through the pages of DS for information.
This is a discussion forum for discussing things.
Stop being so precious.

No, not strictly. 'Non-muslim' is not necessarily a lifelong condition, and converts are apparently susceptible to extremism.

Given the proximity of Israel and Cyprus I would suspect there is a lot of real time radar information on the flight.

Terrible.

I hate flying so much

How it can disappear, I have no idea. It was also 20 mins from it's destination!

I don't think it was a bomb, they say the plane "swerved and fell", so I assume it was something outside the plane rather than inside if they "swerved" maybe to avoid getting hit by something?

Either way, we won't know.

Do you think a mad pilot just flew it into the sea? Like the one that went into the mountains recently?
EgyptAir has already been there and done that:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EgyptAir_Flight_990

EgyptAir Flight 990 was a regularly scheduled flight from Los Angeles International Airport, United States, to Cairo International Airport, Egypt, with a stop at John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York City. On 31 October 1999, the Boeing 767 operating the route crashed into the Atlantic Ocean about 60 miles (100 km) south of Nantucket Island, Massachusetts, killing all 217 people on board. The official "probable cause" of the crash was deliberate action by the relief first officer.

Airports and airlines are notorious terror targets. There is a well known, ongoing, global problem with Islam and terrorism.

Do I have to keep explaining every single minor point, are you that dense?
I'm more worried about finger pointers like you than I am about Muslims working in airports.

I recently watched an "Air Crash Investigation" episode playing out the above scenario, scary.

One of my favourite programmes.

Given that it hapened just off the US coast, the large number of casualties and the bizarre reason for it going down it seems oddly forgotten about.

I'm confused as to why discussing a missing plane that could have crashed into the ocean is fine but potential terrorism is distasteful.

Seems odd there is still no sign of it yet. If it came down where they think you would have expected them to have located something by now. Its not like its a big area.

" Plane movements 'suggest incident in cockpit'

What this does suggest is that it is more of an incident in the cockpit itself of that aircraft. It does suggest it wasn't necessarily blown out of the sky by a missile potentially... it wasn't necessarily a device on board. It would suggest that the pilot has been involved in some way in an incident in the cockpit."

Might explain why no radio contact and the reported swerves etc

It's full of boatloads of refugees for a start.

Yeah but the amount of radars in that small area though. Its hard to believe none of them have picked anything up. The UK alone has a base in Cyprus. I can understand them not revealing it to the public at this stage but it just seems odd they don't know where it is when radar surely picked it up.

Surely passengers aren't allowed access to the cockpit any longer.

I agree, It's position and trajectory were both fairly well defined, and it will have been light for about 10 hours or so now.

Some things may have got lost in translation, but the whole 'fall and swerve' business would imply evasive action to me. Just thinking about the 'fireball' video from earlier, wonder if that could be 'incoming' rather than the plane itself?

The planes movements also suggest a failure of flaperons, ir even something as drastic as loss of a wing (sharp bank to the left followed by the plane flipping and spiralling right). The excessive G force caused by such a sudden incident would result in everyone on board blacking out in seconds. But at this stage its too soon to even suggest any cause until the boxes are found.

A favourite of mine too, I love to see how they determine the cause(s). I doubt Al-Batouti's family will ever accept the possibility of his, alleged, actions.

One of the most disturbing was a UPS(?) flight were the crew was attacked, by a fellow employee, in the cockpit. How they managed to land that plane was incredible.

Edit: Federal Express Flight 705 not UPS

Perhaps an incident between the crew themselves?
