Yeah, but the reason no-one listens is that there's no compelling, unique content on SW.
It's impractical to fund international shortwave radio rights for sporting events like Euro 2016 or even individual games within the tourney via advertising, because this is focussed on individual markets and you can't make enough money just from international brands on an international service.
Nowadays with crowd-funding, however, you can establish separate funding pots for broadcasting individual games in the tournament and afterwards for games in domestic leagues; the EPL teams' support base is international, to give one example.
All that's required to make that happen is that the rights holders don't make exclusive deals with one broadcaster or, alternatively and perhaps more attractively, that international SW radio rights packages would be sold as a separate category.

talkSPORT 2's online stream was geoblocked for those accessing it outside of the UK for most of its first three months on-air, but the geoblocking has been lifted recently (I'm not exactly sure when this happened, but it was at some point in the last week or two). Some content is still blocked - their commentaries on the Indian Premier League cricket, for example - but I guess the majority of content will be streamed, including their Euro 2016 commentaries if tournament matches airing on talkSPORT are able to be streamed.

Actually, I don't think so.
One of Parry's game is Italy v Sweden, which takes place on 17th June. Stan Collymore, who is certainly at the games, is set to be his co-commentator.
Confirmation that BBC Radio 5 Live will be providing commentary of some Euro 2016 matches off-tube this summer.
I know that some will be off-tube from the broadcast centre in Paris - and some will be off-tube from Salford (those involving Ian Brown).

Great to have Alan Parry back on the radio. Along with John Motson & Jonathan Pearce, I've always preferred their radio work to TV
well, I stand corrected re Alan Parry-- good to see him back in France covering a major tournament. his first major tournament on the then talk radio was France 98. the whole off tube thing to me is over played. no-one criticises sky for off tubing Spanish football but talksport and in this case 5Live get snarky articles written about it. lets be honest, the average listener probably doesn't even know or care.
Off tubing for the lesser games seems a sensible cost saving move to me.......as long as the home nations games aren't affected I really don't see the problem tbh..

What is it with Charles Sale and his Daily Mail pieces that annoy me so much, its not even good investigative journalism, its just lazy journalism, putting 2 and 2 together and hoping you get 4. No wonder Shane Warne threatened to knock him out.

Are the games that are being offtubed maybe in smaller stadiums with less media spaces to go to countries that aren't involved in the actual match?

I do, that's what "VLC running SOCKS via one of my [UK] servers" is. It's not an 'easy' solution as it constrains me to listening to the footy via a PC. I want to listen either on my phone's Internet radio app or a proper Internet radio. Using a VPN on my phone might otherwise have been a solution but a lot of consumer-grade routers have mysteriously dropped support for VPNs.

That's because most people don't watch Spannish football. International football tournaments involving England, like English domestic football, is mainstream and attracts big audiences.
People would notice if they couldn't mislead listeners by broadcasting sound from the stadium or any alternative crowd effects. They know people would care that's why they create a dishonest sound.
In the case of this tournament, it's only in France - a lot closer to the UK than Brazil.
As every match will be on TalkSport, there is no need for the BBC to broadcast radio commentary on matches to which it cannot afford to send people no doubt at the expense of coverage of other sport.

Great to hear that Alan Parry will be part of the talkSPORT commentary team. I know his TV commentary work has come in for criticism in recent years, but I really enjoyed hearing him back commentating on the radio during the 2014 World Cup and hopefully he will continue to sound as good as he did that summer.
So we know four members of talkSPORT's lead commentary team - Jim Proudfoot, Ian Danter, Alan Parry and Gary Taphouse - plus Nigel Adderley will be in France, but as their England correspondent, although he might be able to squeeze in the odd commentary Mike Ingham/Ian Dennis-style. It will be interesting to see if they need any more than that, I could see the likes of Andrew McKenna (who should stay in the UK for his talkSPORT 2 cricket commitments given that Dants is out in France), Nigel Pearson and Richard Connelly doing any off-tube games during the group stage - particularly the five final group games (bar Russia v Wales) that will be on talkSPORT 2.
I see they've updated the talkSPORT.com schedule to include details of who is covering what in the group stage, albeit with a distinct lack of information about lead commentators. It also doesn't distinguish which ex-pros will be co-commentating or just providing punditry. On that, Stan Collymore has tweeted:

since I think the world cup in 2002, talksport (and now 5Live) use a sound mix direct from the stadium when off tubing the few games they do so aren't using fake crowd sounds. Talksport used to do this when they had 'unofficial rites' to matches. as 5Live and TS both have official rites to broadcast the tournament they are able to use crowd sounds from the ground. The only time I think you have a point about people being mislead would be if the commentary team actively pretended they are in the stadium, i.e. 'lets cross to Ian Brown at the ground'. 5Live are always upfront about when they off tube-- the costs of offtubing are minimal so nothing else is loosing out. can you tell me what 5Live would be covering if they weren't commentating on a few football matches from Salford?

Yeah, a UDP-based VPN is going to break regularly on 3G and 4G if inter-site (and sometimes even intra-site) handover is required. Do you have a TCP option with your VPN? Also there's an HTML5 iPlayer Beta that might work better at longer distances from Blighty, http://www.bbc.co.uk/html5. Give that a whizz, it doesn't work in Firefox, I run it in Chromium on an Ubuntu 14.04 laptop to watch footy highlights etc while overseas.

Thanks for sharing that. Really good to hear that Nigel Pearson will be part of the talkSPORT Euro 2016 commentary team, we don't get to hear him commentating on football that much as his speedway and darts commitments have grown. Given that the group stage runs for the duration of the next fortnight, I imagine he'll be involved in commentating on some of the matches from the final round of group games that will be airing on talkSPORT 2.
Ian Danter has confirmed on Twitter that he will be commentating on matches played in "Bordeaux, Toulouse, Lyon, Lille etc" with Wales v Slovakia on Saturday being his first commentary game.
