Peggy's Death - how would you have done it?
I've read lots of comments saying how people were impressed or disappointed with the way Peggy's death was handled by the EE team. I thought it was good but I have to admit, I'd have done it differently as I felt it was a bit rushed and the dialogue a little cloying.
Personally, I would have gone for a trip down memory lane using classic clips with the loved ones from Peggy's past rather than just talking about them. I'd have had Peggy walking around the square looking at the market as it is now and then having it change to a past scene at that spot with the cast as they were back then. She could've gone past the former car lot and seen it as it was with Frank wheeling and dealing out front, the fruit stall with Mark etc., and her last stop should've been The Vic with all the present day celebrations, which then morphed into the pub as it was when her family were there - showing her special moments with everyone like Pauline, Dot, Frank...and Pat. Then after one final look around to see Phil, Grant and her friends enjoying their evening, she should've headed home with a peaceful smile on her face and her head held high. I'd have had Peggy slowly put all her make up and finery on, take her tablets and then following a deep breath, a brave smile and nod in the mirror, she should've slowly turned to see Pat smiling kindly at her with her hand held out. Then the clock stopping ticking. Simple and nostalgic. That's just how I would've shown it. I liked that they brought Pat back but personally I wouldn't have had the extended dialogue with her. I think both Pam and Babs could both portray strong/vulnerable and bold/understated simultaneously so I think this would've been a subtle yet powerful scene with two talented actresses. (I still get choked up over Dot and Ethel's last scene and that was years ago!) If you were Executive Producer, what would you have done differently for the departure of an EE icon?

Peggy all the way through was about her boys and her family. Her personality was as a fighter, never give up kind.
her death should of reflected this. the pacing and rush to kill her didn't need to be that way. they could have had lots of family scenes with and without her. it should have been filmed when both Sam and Grant were there. I wouldn't have had any of that Pat crap either. I do like your simple nostalgia idea and past flashbacks and think they could of done that, it would be different, make her death special instead of the run of the mill rubbish it was |

I think it was executed perfectly. I would've added one thing though:
- Sam returning when Grant did. I don't like the fact that Sam was pretty much forgotten about, especially when Peggy said to Phil and Grant "you are my world". |

When she was in the Vic, the music would suddenly cut out and the pub would be plunged into darkness. Cut to the outside of the pub, and we see masked and heavily armed figures bolting the doors shut. Panic would ensue inside, mass confusion and hysteria.
Suddenly, the sound of shattered glass as a dozen of the heavily armed militia come parachuting in through the windows, and pump a few shotgun bullets into Sonia as warning shots. Once the perimeter was secured, the lights would be switched on, and everyone but Peggy would be herded into the corner, weapons trained on them. Paul Coker would be immediately gagged just in case he tries to do any acting. The leader of the group has Peggy tied to a chair in the middle of the pub, whilst two of his accomplices start giving Sonia a kicking, as a warning like. The end of an automatic rifle is placed into Peggy's mouth, and the leader screams a warning at the hostages at the end of the pub: "IF ANYONE MOVES, THIS ANGRY FREAK MOUSE WOMAN GETS IT." Almost immediately, the entire pub go back to enjoying their evening, getting some drinks in, Patrick gets back on the karaoke, Buster plays a few rounds of darts, and Shirley snarls at a customer. The gang promptly turn their weapons on Peggy, and open fire until every one of their chambers is emptied into her. Everyone in the pub gets on with their evening and has a lovely time. Peggy is never mentioned again. Thanks. |

I thought it was done ok but think Sam shouldve been there too.
I would have added scenes with Kathy and Claudette Taken out all the stealing toilets stuff and Whitney. |

Regardless of how it was to be played out I would have added a soft piano track at the end. A poignant variation of the theme. Like this perhaps...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhr9iw_qAjg I recorded this track a few weeks ago. |
