Tiny plasma failure.

Looking for a new replacement TV as my Tiny plasma has failed ( loads of horizontal lines down screen) and the repairman said it's not worth fixing. I was thinking about upgrading to an LCD. I was never really happy with the picture of the Tiny (although it has lasted for 10 years and so I've put up with it ) especially watching snooker and football - there seemed to be 'tails' on the movement of the balls (although I know Tiny is a very good make). I put this down to the fact that the plasma uses a gas so when there's a fast moving item on the screen like a football, the screen will blur because the gas cannot keep up with the motion i.e. there's a lag effect whereas LCD (liquid crystal) contains liquid so the picture won't blur because the liquid is faster to react than the gas plus of cause the plasmas may have to need re-gassing after a period of time unlike LCD (although luckily mine didn't need re- gassing). As my Tiny lasted 10 years I was looking for a Tiny replacement LCD but the shop where I bought it from has disappeared and I can't find Tiny's website and I can't find any Tiny televisions on other sites. My original TV was a 42" and looking for same size replacement - budget around £300 - I only use scout plug from DVD player to TV and digital box which also uses scout so I need 2 scout sockets - not interested in anything else. Can anybody advise a suitable television, please? - I was in Tescos the other day and saw some Tecnics screens which looked good and were at a very good price - I seem to recall that Tecnics is a good make because I seem to remember some very good hi-fi from them in the past - I assume this is a Japanese made set (as Tecnics is a Japanese make) so should be reliable as well - any thoughts, please?

7/10 but must try harder, and you didn't mention using a cream for that screen burn.

Get your plasma regassed, mate. You want some of the nitrous what they have in high performance street rods like in Fast & Furious. Them are well fast. Get some of that gas in your plasma and it'll be dead quick. Them balls will fly around, no worries. Go see them performance tuning guys or a decent air-con guy.

OK guys - thought I would post this for a little light entertainment - hope it made you laugh. However, I have seen the comments about gas versus liquid before! And I was browsing another forum recently and looking at some old postings - my word, you should see the problems people had with Tiny plasmas back in 2005! There were loads of people who had ridiculously poor performance with colours, judder, buzzing - endless problems and screens breaking after only a month - customer services charging £1 per hour on the phone - non deliveries - untrue specs- broken promises and all for a 42" screen for a bargain £1200 - although it was cheaper than a Panasonic or Pioneer at the time which apparently was their main selling point - I'm just glad I couldn't afford £1200 at the time. Apparently it went as far as an investigation by BBC Watchdog programme. I have to say, I've never seen so many unhappy people with the same product with the same problems. Wonder if this brings back any memories especially for the tech guys like Nigel - would be interesting to know if they remember this apparent debacle. Thank god for Vestel!!!

Funnily enough we actually bought a Tiny Plasma back in last year

Presumably it had been working fine all these years?, until they replaced it with a Sony LCD one.

I seem to recall Tiny were known by some as 'Tough It's Now Yours' owing their appalling customer service.

Yes good old Tiny - weren't they the people behind Collosus, Time and Tiny computers? - they'd go bankrupt once or twice then buy back the brand and start again. From Bolton if I recall.

It was Granville Technology Group that owned those brands

Finally went bust in 2005

That was Tiny's second incarnation - Granville bought them out from receivership.

Originally they weren't part of Granville https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiny_Computers
