Bet she's had a shock though, most of the long timers on Corrie think their untouchable and can do and say what they want. They need an icicle up the backside, a short, sharp, unpleasant shock to pull them down from that elevated platform they've put themselves on.”

Exactly. If a great actress and long server like Pam St Clement can be axed from Eastenders then I see no reason why the shitty one's on Corrie can't be. The fact that they think they're untouchable makes my blood boil.

Eileen Derbyshire, Barbara Knox and William Roache are who I consider the untouchable actors. NOT Jack P Shepherd or Antony Bleedin Cotton and his gang (Jennie McAlpine, Kym Marsh etc)

Well done Jack for not letting the soap destroyer ruin your character.

Such a great actress she spent 26 years in the same soap, and her axing is something this forum never stops going on about.

I don't see why the young actors should give up their full time jobs just because this forum is bitter towards them. Would you suddenly leave your job because someone said you wouldn't have the guts to move on?

We don't even know if this story is true and it is published by the Sun of all things, but typically this forum believes any tripe written and gives them the opportunity to spout the same crap and moan because the actors dare not quit.

Most Actors are in some form of Union.

You can only axe an actor once their contract is up.

Somebody at Corrie is protecting Anthony Cotton and even Kate Oates may not be able to do anything about about it but there is a long list of Corrie characters that need to be axed.

It wasn't personal to Kate he said in the interview "I never meet with the producers" . Also, the "soap destroyer" really? She may have made a few bad decisions at Emmerdale, but she's far from that, most of her stuff has been brilliant Imo, and her work was the reason I started watching ED regularly a few years ago.

Agree. He's definitely the best of the younger brigade. This whole story seems very unlikely.

I think he said it to her, but he said it more like, he didn't want to interfere and that he'd work with whatever she comes up with.

She wasn't axed. She asked to leave temporarily. She just didn't want to be killed off. Big difference.

The Sun are using direct quotes from him so I doubt its entirely made up otherwise he could sue them for slander. You think he would be interested in helping to shape the direction of his character.

No! She WAS axed. You're right when you said she asked to leave temporarily but they killed her off (axed) anyway.

Jack P Shepard has always had a very high opinion of himself, but then I suppose someone has to.

The way he refused a meeting to talk about his storylines, but said he'd kick up a fuss if he wasn't happy with them

If true - what a wa****

No way would she axe David the only Character which is three-dimensional. So many different sides, to him.
Jack may be a knob, but is by far the best actor that the show has and knows it, fairplay to the lad i say.

He can be as good an actor as he wants, that means diddly squat, You go up to your boss and tell them 'no' if they ask you for a word, see how far you'd get. You'd be told not to bother coming in next morning or any other morning after that. He who pays the piper calls the tune.

The Sun is good for nothing. I can't believe people still read it these days.

Jack has a lot more staying power than Kate Oates, he's been on the show for what 16 years, Kate will be here 3 at most. He knows the kind of clout he carries at Corrie and so does Kate Oates, even if she was pissed off at him for his comment she knows getting rid of him would be a dumb move and would likely cost her her job and maybe prevent her from working on any of the other soaps as well.

That isn't how it works. Nobody is bigger than the show (even if some on Corrie like to think they are). No matter how good you are at your job, how valuable to have on board, if you say no to your boss, the person who keeps you in work and pays you for doing that work, the chances are you are going to go down the road and they will get somebody else, who might not be as good as you but at least they don't have a jumped up sense of their own self importance.

Jack said this at a recent press event and I was on the same table as The Sun - so I can say that he spoke completely tongue in cheek and the message he was getting across was that he doesn't find meetings with producers comfortable and he prefers to find out what's in store when he gets the scripts. He also joked that he 'just doesn't like walking up stairs.'

He praised Kate and the stuff about him making a fuss if he was not getting the storylines he wanted was also a joke, in response to Paula saying 'oh yeah, he'd be hammering down her door if that were the case.'

It was all very light hearted and, from where I was sitting, didn't seem arrogant at all.

So just a case of the press over exaggerating again, no change there then.

That's good I like Jack and didn't like to think he would be arrogant. Thanks for letting us know.

Are you sure? both Aaron and Carly in ED have said that they came up with ideas for their storylines with Kate and they had discussions on where to take the characters and storyline idea

The sun has probably twisted it but I think he is right he is there to act not storyline

edit: seen wallo's post now just ignore me, good to know the truth sometimes

Thanks for that. It reminds me of all those mags who get a front page story out of a jokey throwaway comment made by one of the Loose Women.

Perhaps Jack is an Emmerdale fan and he is afraid she will ruin Coronation Street as she did with that soap.
