His son Sean has marked the anniversary with a tweet - http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2016-...heartfelt-post

Jon Pertwee is trending.

Remarkable man who certainly left behind an admirable legacy, and one of the strongest portrayals of the Doctor to date. He died when I was just a baby but he certainly left a mark on my childhood with his unforgettable adventures... R.I.P.

Hard to believe it was 20 years ago, I remember the day very vividly, I was at work running my shop when my Dad came in and said, "Black armband on, son. One of your Doctor's has died..."
I instantly knew what and whom he meant, and feeling an awful pain of sorrow across my chest for the rest of the afternoon.

My thoughts in remembrance of you Mr. Pertwee.

i know most fans will know about Jon and the navy lark, but for fans who didn't know get your hands on the shows and listen, you will hear Jon Pertwee at his best this is a comedy gem. I'm 56 and only heard them first a few years ago but they are so entertaining and shows the range of the great mans talent. PS not to mention the great Ronnie Barker, Leslie Phillips etc.

Whilst not my favourite Doctor, Pertwee was very good in the role, even though he played it too action man at times, instead of being eccentric. I like many of his stories although some of them are bogged down with 7 parters.

It was sad that he died just before the TV movie with Paul McGann aired.

An extremely funny show with a fabulous cast of comedy greats.
I particularly liked the moments when the crew had shore-leave and would get drunk. Jon's knack of the vernacular made up for some great spoonerisms when he was playing a slightly worse-for-wear Chief Petty Officer Pertwee.

Not forgetting his cameos in several Carry On films, particularly the Soothsayer in 'Cleo' and the scientist who inadvertently creates Oddbod Jnr in 'Screaming'.

And of course, Worzel Gummidge, in many ways his proudest achievement as it was very much his baby

For me, I liked watching Jon Pertwee when he did what he did best-comedy!

As a kid I loved him as Worzel Gummidge, I've caught the odd episode over the years since and still think he's funny in that! I remember for many years I never knew what Jon Pertwee actually looked like!

I also liked his appearances in The Carry On Films, he really made such two smalls
seem such a big role in both of the films he did.

In Doctor Who, just a shame that aside from a few scenes in The Green Death, he didn't bring more of that to the role, but perhaps if he had, we wouldn't have got Tom Baker, so guess there's an upside to his serious interpretation.

He was actually in 4 Carry on's, Cleo, Cowboy, Screaming and Columbus. Lovely man, his two autobiographies are well worth a read.;

You're right, thought I was wrong about that, happy to be corrected but my point still stands. He was brilliant in all of them and will give the autobiographies a read.

Let's imagine for a moment that Jon Pertwee was still alive and well in 2013.

Would he have had a roll in the 50th anniversary, and, if so, what?

Judging by Tom Baker's roll, it would have been a tribute cameo at best, but if Moffat had both of them to contend with, would he have included neither, one of them or both?

Yeah I adored him in the 1980s as Worzel then found out he was in Doctor Who.

Mind you Ronnie barker did a ace impression of Worzel Gummidge playing the Doctor.

It seems unreal to me that 20 years have passed so fast.

I've been indulging in some Pertwee DVD's myself recently and it's nice to see him getting so much love on these forums recently.

I felt that his era of the show was probably the most overlooked of all the classic Doctors during the fiftieth anniversary celebrations, albeit by circumstance rather than design. But we had the Adventure in Space and Time and a repeat of an Unearthly Child to represent Hartnell's era, the recently discovered Web of Fear and Enemy of the World for Troughton's era, Tom Bakers cameo, The Five-ish Doctors for Doctors Davison, Colin Baker & McCoy and the Night of the Doctor for McGann, so it's nice to see that Pertwee hasn't been forgotten about

I met him and Courtney and Manning during the filming of Day of the Daleks; we had to keep quiet and sit on the grass; there was a policeman there too! We all got given a bottle of coke ( a rare treat) and a sausage sandwich from the catering van hahahaaa. It was great
