From what I can remember of it I'm seriously surprised it used to be on that early. I suppose there was no watershed back then.
I think it's just that PC has gone crazy in recent times!

First time on TOTP, apart from the last time they were on.

Actually - it's my female 'cousin' - but she has a pretty look much like Billy did!

BBC4 did show a couple of the Kenny Everett Television Shows about 3 or 4 years ago. Wouldn't it be just wonderful if they would show some more of them just after these TOTP editions. I wonder why they showed just a couple but no more. I do hope it's not that insidious PC plague that infects the BBC particularly badly.

A bit of class from the Associates
The best single on the show tonight - Associates, Party Fears Two.

A standout single of the 1980's too.

Probably not a karaoke classic.
Anyone got a tingle going down the back of the neck to this pop music masterpiece?
Yes - probably my favourite 80s tune of them all!!

Sublime. Magnificent. Spell bounding and Majestic. 3 and a bit minutes of pop perfection! Cheers for that Billy, you stole the show my boy.

His cheeky little looks at himself in the monitors are so endearing.

That was Brilliant.
Forgot to add that one too - to my multi quote!

Ever get the feeling Adrian wasn't bothered if he wrote the song in an attic or not. Just looking for a world to rhyme with addict i bet.

Wouldn't surprise me if the cheeky scamp wrote it in the conservatory
And probably sat there with Miss Scarlet & some lead piping, whilst writing it - I bet!!

Julio Greasyarse!! Bet Michael Hurl just blew a gasket.
Thanks for this. I'm going to use it later on the Games thread in the Music section entitled "Making Fun Of Singers Names" which I regularly contribute to. I had a rather rude one for Haircut 100 which you'll have to search out. Other ones from this 1982 chart include Meat Oaf, and one for me and Highlander Ian - Modern Bromance.

Why couldn't Kenny Everett have presented TOTP in character like that. It would have been brilliant.

So the Kenny Everett Television Show was on BBC1 at 8pm after TOTP. Just compare that to the tedious daytime style drivel you get now at 8pm, Zelebrity Masterchef.
It's a pity BBC4 doesn't transmit TOTP followed by the Kenny Everett show just like in 1982!!

Well now having caught up with all the comments I can say tonight's show was a definite 7/10 with The Associates being the icing on the top!

Sorry Ursula, I'm one. But, I'd rather listen to that than this any day.
Actually I'm getting quite fond of 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' after all these episodes!!

Yes, best episode for a while, i say. I enjoyed it from start to finish, although i wasn't keen on everything, and especially the No 1. However, even Tight Fit couldn't spoil things. Definitely an episode i could watch repeatedly. I'm looking forward to seeing the full late showing.

Weren't The Associates marvelous? I should hope that song makes everyone's top 10 at the end of the year!

It deserves to!

Yes they were & upon reflection, I may change my mark to 8/10 instead of 7/10!

Not too bad an episode - 1 great record, 3 good ones, 1 half decent one and 3 which were utter rubbish plus a dreadful playout.

'Party Fears Two' is an excellent track and was by far the highlight of the programme.

Worst song of the night was 'Quiereme Mucho (Yours)'. The number 1 was also rubbish and the quality of the video for a 1982 production was very poor - it looked so grainy.

When it was on ITV (78-81) it started even earlier at 7pm - and with Hot Gossip too! Oh to be a teenage boy in those days.

Ursula my dear, is you trippin!!

I think I'm going to have to create a TOTP sub thread, I'll title it, 'some of Ursula's shock/horror comments'. This can go in of course, along with various one's you've made about 'Winner Takes It All' over the years.

Maybe I will write a book one day with them in! - 'Say what you See' as Roy Walker would say on Catchphrase!!

Should be there or thereabouts shouldn't it. I can never quite decide which I think their best single is, tonight's or Club Country. They're both such unusual and innovative little moments of pop magic that it's hard to decide. Both are pure class obviously though whatever.
