The video for 'Run to the Hills' featured on the DLT Yewtree edition.

They appeared in the TOTP's studio doing 'Run to the Hills' when it was re-released in March 2002 reaching No.9.

Heaven 17”

Wow, you couldn't get more contrasting versions of the same song.

I have to confess I like Divine Comedy but not sure about this cover. The instrumentation almost makes it into a comical song. I almost laughed when it got going. Whether this was the intention I don't know. I also can never get 'My Lovely Horse' from Father Ted' out of my mind when I hear Neil Hannon.

On the opposite side, does a slow version of the song work? Yep, pretty much so for me.
The vocals on both versions are really good.

Cannae beat Billy though!

Simon Cowell did bother the charts in 1982 with this masterpiece: For some reason there's no mention of it on his Wikipedia page.

Other stand out tracks on the Associates' Sulk album IMO are Bap de la Bap, Nude Spoons, and especially No, with its haunted house atmosphere.

Not sure if it's been mentioned on this thread but at 10.15pm on BBC2 tonight there's a prom dedicated to the music of David Bowie and a special guest is Marc Almond!

Edit BBC 4 (Thanks Highlander!)

Are we only going to get one episode of Top of the Pops each week until the Proms finishes? I'm not complaining about the Proms, I quite like watching the concerts.

According to my schedule we get one edition next week Thursday August 4th. Friday August 5th is The Proms.

The following week on Thursday August 11th and Friday August 12th there's Olympic coverage all day and night on BBC4.

Yes, Craig was again consigned to the sidelines again as LMSO elbowed her way in front of the camera again … and again.

She started OTT with Bates at the top of the episode, then concluded in a row of four cheerleaders, each trying to out-mug each other (so much so that it looked like one of them would fall off the stage).

Who is LMSO? Where is she now? We need to know!

And why does she remind me of Anthea Turner …?

Pretty sure she is Corinne Russell, a Page 3 girl at the time.

Well Done Jeff Lynne.

And Drake finallly falls to No.5 in the singles chart failing to equal Bryan Adams 16 week run at No.1. ”

Well done Jeff indeed. Had a quick skim through the official album charts and saw that a fair few old compilations are in surprisingly high positions - Bob Marley's 'Legend' originally released in 1984 is at No. 7; ABBA's 'Gold' is at No. 23 (originally released in 1992); Queen's 'Greatest Hits' is at No. 33 (originally released in 1981). Where have people been hiding? I originally had Queen's 'Greatest Hits' on cassette

I never thought I'd be typing this but well done to Bieber (and co) as well. While I didn't like "Everything I Do (I Do it For You" at the time it's certainly more memorable than "One Dance"; I wouldn't be at all surprised if people have been streaming it so often just to remind themselves or others how the song actually goes. Undoubtedly the lack of promo video and original version of "One Dance" to be found on Youtube have both contributed to people streaming the actual track.

Anyway as for this week's TOTP episode, I'd give it an 8/10 and it was worth tuning in to see "See You," "Party Fears Two" and "Love Plus One." For me that 'interview' with Fun Boy 3 was another of those "riiiigggghhhht' moments, though given how short it was I don't know why they bothered poor Neville and Lynval.

I bet Simes was glad to get out of the studio after that episode. Not only does he make a mistake for one of the first links, he has the odd 'interview,' forgets Haircut 100's name but gets the album title right (?), probably got pestered no end to say Happy Birthday to that bloke's mother and then had that joker interrupting him while trying to introduce "Party Fears Two."

I haven't heard Pluto's "Your Honour" for ages. The phrasing and notes sung for the words "minding I and I own business" sound like they come from "Dat," which is one of my favourite 70s reggae tracks.

Julio's "Quiereme Mucho (Yours)" is definitely something you would have heard when holidaying in Gran Canaria. I wouldn't have bothered with it.

"Love Plus One" is a song I don't think I'll ever tire of. Nick got to have a go at playing Tarzan in the promo video for it if memory serves.

I wouldn't say I dislike "Classic" but it's not one I go out of my way to listen to. However, I do have it on my ipod.

Here's part of an article by the OCC which could explain why these old albums are
climbing back up the chart.

"60 years ago this month saw the birth of the Official Albums Chart – the UK’s official weekly snapshot of popularity dedicated to one of the most influential art forms of our time.
To mark the chart’s historic milestone and kick off July’s month-long anniversary celebrations, OfficialCharts.com can today unveil the 60 biggest selling albums of all time here in Britain, as compiled by the Official Charts Company.
The “60 at 60” list also forms the centrepiece of an in-store retail campaign, which sees Official Charts team up with the three major record labels and outlets including Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Asda, Amazon and Morrisons to promote and sell some of the UK's biggest selling albums this summer."

I feel like that about Lloyd Cole And The Commotions 'Rattlesnakes' too, from 1984, which was a fabulous album from start to finish. It always sounds remarkably fresh too, no matter how many times i've listened to it. I love the single "Perfect Skin", which reminds me a little vocally of Lou Reed, but the standout track may just be "Forest Fire", which was also released as a single, but only made No 41. 'Rattlesnakes' and Paul Weller's Style Council debut album 'Cafe Bleu', really did act for me as an antidote to all of the overproduced glossy pop sounds which were beginning to flood the market at that time. It was never so much The Smiths with me though, although i acknowledge Morrisey's controversial, and sometimes quirky lyrics, and the group's occasional inspiring song, like "How Soon Is Now". Beneath the more obvious fashionable synth pop sounds, there was still some very interesting stuff.

WWF Superstars for me, though I think Aitken had departed by the time that came around. I seem to remember they produced Bill "Jack Duckworth" Tarmey's album as well.

As for Bananarama I like "I Heard a Rumour" and don't mind "I Want You Back" but by and large I prefer their pre and post-SAW output. I suppose the cover of "Nathan Jones" is ok too but I prefer the original. There are a fair few SAW-produced singles I like but many more I can't stand.

Probably the only Cowell associated single I have in any music format in my collection.

I would've much preferred a Meow Mix though. Which reminds me - Felix had some good dance hits in the 90's.

Ah that's interesting and most likely is the reason why those old compilations are appearing in the chart again. I thought there had to be a reason behind it other than a few crabs coming out from underneath rocks!
