And here's the song that was sitting at the top of the charts on the day I was born.
Which version?

This is probably actually more punk than anything The Damned and Sex Pistols ever did.

How it reached number one I'll never know. Abracadabra by Steve Miller Band missed out on the top spot IIRC.

I'll ignore that.

Actually, this performance may have been broadcast on the day I was born.

It took me several listens, incidentally, to realise that the Captain sings "golly baby, I'm a lucky cuss".

This was the cleaned up version.

That's the week when 'Happy Talk' had gone in at No.33. It would climb to No.1 the next week. A chart record at the time.

I've never liked this but the lyric "me, I'm far too young and clever....remember!" is good.

Madness had better singles than this one in 82, didn't they?

I liked 'Cardiac Arrest'. Although a strange subject for a single!

Must admit I liked 'Stool Pigeon' and 'I'm A Wonderful Thing' a bit more than this one.

Kid Creole - again a good lyric coming up... "See if I was in your blood, then you wouldn't be that ugly!".
