The only positive from an utterly abysmal edition.
Don't usually do marks out of /10, but it's a 2/10 from me. The only track I bought from that edition at the time was PF2. Kid Creole, Shalamar, Imagination, Patrice, Odyssey to the dance floor NOW !!!!

Have you heard Heaven 17's version of Party Fears Two from a few years ago? It's a lovely take on the track.
https://youtu.be/mj4of1kGhYs Thanks for the heads-up. It's going on the pod imminently. ![]() Easily the best recommendation I have had on this thread. I played it twice in a row. |

Never mind the dance floor - to TOTP now! (And you can add Shalamar to that list!)

https://youtu.be/mj4of1kGhYs Thanks for posting the link LGO7. It's a simply superb cover and it's wonderfully melancholic. |

I'd say 'It never rains in Southern California' is more known. Surprised to learn that he is British as in both songs he goes on about California.
He's the one in the snazzy shirt --->>> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wopK...ature=youtu.be

Gott im Himmel - that is beautiful. I love the piano as an instrument and this version is sublime.

Wow, what a wonderful take on the song.

Understandable error. Many European languages use their word for 'since' rather than 'for' in the past tense. e.g I have been learning Italian since 3 years'.
Grammar lesson over - I'll test it next week some time. ![]()

I'm 50 years old and I only heard the Beatles last number one The Ballad Of John And Yoko for the first time last year when I sought it out on YouTube cos I realized I'd never heard it before.
- I can't believe I've just read that!!I would've thought that song was as well known as most of their other big hits!! But then I grew up with lots of Beatles records in the house, so maybe I just always knew of it. |

Hope to have got this done sooner, but here's my comments on Thursday's edition.
I'm scoring it a 6.25 out of 10 - a .5 of course being lost for Garth Crooks. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh, but I can't get over how he cocked the intro to Buck's Fizz's My Camera Never Lies. Mind you, I suppose calling them Buck Fizz wasn't as bad as if he'd got the first letters of their name the wrong way round! It was off to a promising start with Altered Images, which I'd actually forgotten was on this show. I really like See Those Eyes, though admit its not as instant as Don't To Talk To Me About Love and certainly Happy Birthday. Loved Clare's ra-ra dress, but the hat was too much! I wouldn't have minded Julio again had it been a different performance and not the video again. He obviously couldn't have been bothered to visit the TOTP studio and there's nothing about the video that's particularly interesting. Yay - Bucks (not Buck!) Fizz! My Camera Never Lies is one of my faves of theirs and I've quite a few clips of them performing it on various TV shows. I just love the way the verses too and fro between the boys and the girls. Not sure what was going on with Cheryl and Jay's outfits, though. Who told Jay that bloomers were in fashion? Definitely couldn't sit through Foster and Allen again. It's probably not that bad a song, but their outfits were just so distracting. I'm guessing this was a hit because of St Patrick's day. I couldn't bear to watch the Boomtown Rats. I know Bob Geldof's known for being scruffy, but he looked ten times worse than usual and I'm not sure what the body builder poses were all about. Shame really, as I don't think its that bad a tune. Don't mind The Nolans, but Don't Love Me Too Hard isn't one of their best by any means - I don't think bit where it goes quite low works at all, and the video isn't that interesting. I did feel sorry for bellboy, though. Killing Joke did liven things up a bit in the context of this edition, but its certainly not something I'd want to see/hear again until I forget how bad this edition is and end up watching it again. I'm not sure if this was the second or third showing off Pluto's Your Honour, probably because I foget how this goes as soon as I've finished hearing it. At last something great - Chas and Dave! Their finest moment, as far as I'm concerned and definitely in my top 5 of 80s no. 2s. The grammar is absolutely terrible in the lyrics, but that what makes it work as it comes across as so real. I think I'm right that the Seven Tears performance hasn't been on before. I definitely prefer it to the other one. If I had to choose between Seven Tears and The Lion Sleeps Tonight I'd have to go for The Lion Sleeps Tonight, but know I'm being biased because I love Fantasy Island so much. As much as I'm not overly fussed with Party Fears Two, it's certainly better to me than some of the other songs on this edition so it was quite disappointing it was relegated to play out song. |

Why was 'Party Fears Two' the play out song?
After watching last Thursday's 'poor' edition of TOTP again - I wonder why they chose 'Party Fears Two' as the play out song? I mean they spend the whole show featuring some of the most mediocre songs & performances - & then save probably the best song of the 1980s to be played out to camera shots of dancers & credits only to be cut off at the end!!
![]() Surely play out songs should be either new releases or dance numbers that the audience can dance along too. Party Fears Two is a song that should be listened to & appreciated to the full - not just some afterthought. I just find it very bizarre scheduling ... Just saying! |

Apparently Killing Joke's frontman Jaz Coleman whose voice is on Empire song had fled to Iceland to escape the forthcoming apocalypse hence the rest of the band miming the song and the appearance of Jacques Cousteau on synths

On the same subject many Europeans pronounce the letter " i " as "ee" whilst singing - I shall also be testing that you have taken note, when the next European group appears on TOTP!

Another simply gorgeous cover of "Party Fears Two" is this one by King Creosote. Kenny Anderson is surely one of Scotland's best kept secrets - he's released dozens of albums which are all superb, yet hardly anyone knows him!

Serious question time. Is Servalan male or female? I always thought male. Am I wrong?
![]() Or ... do you mean that 5 minutes in the presence of Servalan would push our much beloved LMSO over the edge? :RSVP. ![]() https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMmguqS1Ofs I think one minute of LMSO in the presence of that Servalan would be enough to get her incinerated, never mind pushed over the edge (the Supreme Commander of the Galactic Federation had a reputation to maintain). But I might have to take a leaf out of that book if I had LMSO as a nursemaid in my current state - that would be enough to make my condition ten times worse! (At least she's behind the TV screen on the TOTP repeats) Thank you for the 'Get Well Soon's!

Have to say while watching it first time I wondered who was singing, until I saw the drummer was miming the lead vocal.
