17 episodes (I think) from 1981 are not being shown because they were hosted by Jimmy Savile or DLT.
Unfortunately, the Human League's first six appearances of the year were all on shows hosted by one of those two, so we didn't see "Sound Of The Crowd" or "Love Action" and won't see "Open Your Heart".

Welcome to 1982.
![]() When the information about the broadcast dates of TOTP 1982 and possible Story Of 1982 documentary become available then it will be useful to place them on this new thread in anticipation of the year to come, as 1981 looks like wrapping up within the next month, although as yet there appears to be no confirmation of whether 1982 will be a seamless continuation onwards from 1981 or a possible summer or Proms break. Whoever finds out the upcoming broadcast details first please post it here. I loved been a kid then going out to play had and stuff. |

The rockabilly/50s throwback scene continues into 1982 - The Jets, Rocky Sharpe & The Replays and Showaddywaddy all appear during the year. Don't know whether any new bands of this ilk crop up?

No 25 Abba - Head Over Heels. Feb 1982 No 32 Abba - The Day Before You Came. Oct 1982 No 26 Abba - Under Attack.. Dec 1982 |

Really annoying that the show from 13th May 1982 isn't going to be shown. It featured some great songs from Duran Duran, Associates, Simple Minds, Spandau Ballet.

Can't wait. I was born in 81 so this would be the first full year of my life. Roll it on all the way to 1986 which would be my first ever actual memories of the show.

(And the usual copyright moaners lay off long for us to watch / download! That last DLT one got claimed by the Beeb for Cliff's sake!) |

Away back in the 1979 thread I posted that the period 1979-1982 was a particularly unhappy time for me. Life started to get better by mid 1982. I have not been particularly active on these threads during that time, it is not a time in my life a really want to re-visit. Anyway, with the 1982 shows I hope to begin to watch ToTP's again, and contribute to the 1982 thread more often.

Really looking forward to TOTP 1982.
Fewer missing episodes meaning less repititions on Thurs/Fri episodes, John Peel and Kid Jensen presenting a few shows and of course plenty of classic songs with the likes of The Jam, Duran Duran, Madness, Soft Cell, ABC, OMD continuing to chart and the emegence of Yazoo and Tears for Fears. |

It'll be nice to have you back during 1982. A bonus is we 'should' have slightly more editions to watch compared to the last few years.

1982 was the year that I was at work by then so my totps adventures tail off there... only occasional viewings from then on.
My heyday for viewing was 1973 to 1982 ![]() It's been great these last 6 years on bbc4 with these repeats from 1975 on ... |

It looks like the first two 1982 shows will be on the 23rd (7.30, repeated 2.00) and 24th of June (7.30, repeated midnight). These should be the 7th of January with Peter Powell and 21st of January with David Jensen (14th January is a DLT show).

According to this list I've Never Been To Me by Charlene was the 21st best-selling single of 1982 in the UK, but I can't remember hearing it on Tommy Vance's Top 32 of the year on the Radio 1 show which is odd since it was a summer hit not one during the last few weeks of the year. Maybe the list is wrong.

http://www.uk-charts.top-source.info/top-100-1982.shtml I have the radio programme on iPod that you mention from Tommy Vance on Radio 1, The Best Selling Singles Of 1982 broadcast on Sunday 2nd January 1983. Right at the start he makes a little speech about record sales and them being lower in summer than winter and you might wonder why certain songs have not appeared. Then he reads out positions 40 to 33 and then plays from No32 onwards. Charlene's I've Never Been To Me, a summer No1, does not appear in the forty on this show. The No21 seller is announced as Rockers Revenge, Walking On Sunshine, a song that made only No4. These charts always throw up some fascinating revelations. |

, there is a lot of good stuff from that year, I am pointing out that this is what we'll see on the 82 TOTP and if my memory serves me well, it's not good.
