A decent edition of the pops this week.
The pluses for me were Spandau Ballet, Simple Minds and Dollar.
Humble pie confessions of the week : 2 songs I hated at the time have gained 3 promotions up to a 'well above average' rating. 'The Camera Never Lies' began to filter through to the good taste sector of my brain when I saw the video last week and not even Bobby and Mike's ridiculous outfits could detract from the song. And a second helping of humble pie comes via Monsoon's wonderful single 'Ever so lonely'. 34 years ago I just didn't get this single and like many on here had forgotten all about it until 1 hour ago. Not even Zoo's uninspiring wriggling could detract from what was a very enjoyable 3 minutes of aural pleasure.
Loved Promised You A Miracle at the time and I still do. My favourite Simple Minds track from this era would undoubtedly be the underrated 'Someone Somewhere in Summertime'. The B-side of PYAM is also worth a listen 'Theme from great cities'. An impressive debut from yet another quality Scottish group and not even Jim Kerr's questionable miming could detract from the performance.

Shakatak have come under attack on here and are clear winners of this week's wooden spoon but I agree with Nic : Night birds is a fine track, easy listening, well produced and infinitely better than how I remember it three decades ago. Not even a lack of lyrics could detract from an enjoyable, stress reducing ,ivory tickling fest.
Agree with Andy about the wonderful job done by Trevor on the original version of 'Instinction'. This is one of 3 songs going straight onto my pod from this week's edition. No idea why I omitted to include it in the first place. I'm obviously a slow learner. Long gone are the days when the first song on the pops was a throwaway
piece of garbage which the DJ would predict as a future number one although the track was no doubt destined to stall at No.51 in the charts. Instinction heralded a good run of singles for the Spands in 1982 and not even questionable lyrics about cake and the moon and Hadley's redundant cloak draped loosely over his shoulders could detract from a wonderful opening to the music fest.
Kid did his usual enthusiastic, professional presentation but drifted into Batescity Arizona twice : inappropriate use of the word 'consecutive' and claiming the No.16 slot for Monsoon when Bardo were in fact the highest entry at No.16. Not even these irregular faux pas could detract from a job well done by one of the best DJs at the time.
Not so keen on either Roxy Music or Bardo but don't dislike either song so their inclusion did not detract from my overall enjoyment of this week's fine edition.
8/10.
