The BF performance was also from a previous episode....
Don't think so Jen - Jay's legs were far more visible than on previous MCNL appearances (men notice these things)
especially after quotes like this....
And to think that the phrase 'camel toe' wasn't invented yet.

Bucks Fizz released 5 singles and 2 albums in a year. Someone was getting their moneys worth but as usually happens not them.
Jay Aston used to design their outfits, she must have really hated the guys lol. Great group though.

Yep, their management Andy Hill and Nichola Martin became millionaires. Jay said in an interview recently that they only got 1p for evey single sold and 20p for evey album. Not sure if that was each or then divided by 4.

I think I would have done a better job myself!!

Probably each - unless they were totally ripped off! If they had written their own songs like Abba they would've got a lot more!!

And a sorry story it is.

It's due in a large part to DVD and his actions that Cheryl, Mike and Jay can't use the Bucks Fizz name now.
Correct! If you ever get the opportunity to see it watch "Coach Trip" when DVD and Cheryl Baker both appeared together. It used to be on YouTube but I think it's been removed now, unfortunately!

Got this on video somewhere - here's the Trouble At Top prog about the feud between Bobby G and David Van Day.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2dAMA3R4pA

Well I'm giving Thurday's edition a 9 and a quarter out of ten - my fave edition of 1982 so far. Only one song I wasn't so keen on and annoying that it was an edited edition. Hoping a full version turns up on online.

Agreed with the Kid that Spandau's Instinction was an excellent way to start the programme. Great production from Trevor Horn which gave them the hit that pretty much rescued their career. Gary and Martin really seemed to be enjoying themselves. I'm guessing instinction is a mash-up of the words instinct and intuition.

A shame they couldn't get Roxy Music into the studio again, I don't recall seeing the video before which was a bonus. The flames did make me think of The Goombay Dance Band. Maybe if they'd done a bit of fire-eating they'd have got to number 1! It did seem a bit creepy, though, the way Bryan seemed to be admiring himself on screen at the end.

I've moaned more than once about the staging for Shakatak, so of course I was pleased to see the girls finally get their moment in the spotlight instead of being hidden at the back and Zoo only appearing just briefly at the end.

Loved seeing the new performance of Dollar's Give Me Back My Heart that I hadn't seen before. I think they've one last hit before we'll not see them on the pops for quite awhile

Bit of a downer with Simple Minds. Promise You A Miracle isn't their worst song but I couldn't bear the performance. Jim Kerr looked like he was drunk or on drugs and the way he kept moving around and up and down made me feel dizzy. Probably nerves and wanting to make a good impression on their TOTP debut but it was hard to watch.

Poor Sheila who also should have been making her TOTP debut but ended up in hospital having to have her appendix out so won't appear for another fortnight. Really like Ever So Lonely and Zoo did a decent routine to it too.

Can never tire of seeing Bardo doing One Step Further, and another performance I hadn't seen before. Nice to know Sally Ann was watching. I don't know if she'll be aware of this thread, but I'm sure she'd be pleased that it is generally being remembered fondly on here.

Well I'm sure I'm not the only one who wanted to cheer when it was announced that the Goombay Dance Band had fallen to number 4, making way at the top for the excellent My Camera Never Lies - and a new performance too. Jay's mock stern look and finger wagging in this routine always cracks me up. So I'm presuming she was the one responsible for the awful outfits the guys were wearing.

It would've topped of a fantastic edition had Altered Images been in the studio to perform See Those Eyes instead of having to make do with the audience dancing to it, but better than it not been featured again at all.

I don't think this has already been posted, but for anyone wondering what shunted TOTP out of its usual slot it was the Young Musician Of The Year wind and brass final. So if you tuned in at the wrong time you got actual brass instead of Craig Fairbrass!

Posted this video of Truble at the top yesterday. I watched again after not seeing it for years. DVD is a horrible guy. He is vain, self important and thinks he was bigger than he actually was and will stop at nothing to make a few pounds. He only pinched the Bucks Fizz name and act because his own group Dollor wern't as big. I saw the original Bucks Fizz in 1983 the year before their bus crash. They were a good group back in the day. There are some clips on YouTube of a show called Pop goes the band witch was on Living a few years ago. I seem to remember it was a show and DVD also did it just before he was in I'm a celebrity. They take groups and singers and give them a make over before they do a performance. It was usually groups like Bucks Fizz who hadn't had a hit in years and had split up or were doing shows for Butlands etc. Cheryl Baker didn't come across very well. She was asked to loose some waight and they put her on a diet and fitness programe. Right from the start she wasn't happy about this and in the end stopped going to the excersise class. So in the end got a dressing down for not lossing a few stone. She just came across as someone who didn't like being told what to do and if she didn't want to do it she wasn't going to do it no matter what.

Nothing to do with Andy writing for other people was it?

Sorry I missed your post where you posted the Trouble At The Top link. I'm sure I have some recordings of Pop Goes The Band. Definitely the Dollar one and Shakatak were on it too!

Nothing unusual in those days releasing 2 albums in a year. Lots of artists did so in the 60s and 70s.

Can't say I've ever noticed the guys' outfits..........

Just watched that Trouble at the Top video - DVD comes across as a really spiteful, childish person in it. It's a shame it was so long ago though, as it seems the story nowadays is Bobby G and his wife still hold the trademark but don't tour much, while the other three originals with Bobby McVay are touring and seem to be very happy as a group together (there was a link to a 'Lorraine' interview with them from that Youtube video). Cheryl clearly does not think much of Bobby G now!

There was another Trouble at the Top video there, called "Fool's Gold"... so naturally I put it on thinking it was about the break up of the Stone Roses, and Ian Brown / John Squire in particular... I was quite disappointed to find out it was about El Dorado...

A very early riser from me...

For those on here who may not have seen this before, which was me until not long ago, here is a programme called Stars Re-United from 2003 on the BBC, re-uniting Top Of The Pops people. I have no memory of it at all but it's worth placing on here I think for anyone interested. A certain well known 1982 studio incident gets a mention. Also for Highlander Ian in particular I want to draw your attention to the audience member asking Savile a question at 49mins 40 secs into the programme.

Yeah , he certainly made more from these I meant more Nichola Martin. They are no longer together but there's a DVD called The Bucks Fizz Story in which she made reference to her becoming a millionaire, she does not come across well in it.

And a whole load of wind even without Simon Bates.

If only DVD had copyrighted the acronym DVD before DVDs were invented he'd be a millionaire by now!

I've just noticed that the act that always gets edited out won't get the axe this week as they're on just before the top 10 countdown. I can just imagine the ensuing chaos in the editing suite

Am I the only person to have noticed that there is a guy who is standing near the presenter every single week, he also dances but I'm pretty sure he's not a member of Zoo, he's just always there, I'm wondering who he is & why he's always there; not last night but in the previous episode he was wearing a baseball cap & red boots (last night he was wearing a dickie-bow tie). He looks a bit like the younger male character from 'Are You Being Served'.
Craig Fairbrass is always around but I think the one you mean was later to become Daniel James from Yell. He was always hanging around behind the presenter each week.

(JK's USA segment follows the Dollar song.)
Its from the just shown Kid Jensen ep, but 'spoilers' anyway, and thanks for those links.
My saved copy of the Popscene website makes no mention of his report..

so thanks again.
