Yay, Meat Loaf. Great song and video.
Yes - thank goodness it came on after the first two dreary acts!

I never realised all these years he was singing "Rock and Roll and Brew".
I always thought it was

Rock and rolly blue.
And I always thought it was Rock & Roll & You!

That has to have a point absolutely deducted for the posing body builders at the end! I mean, what the hell was that all about?

Enjoyed Yellow Pearl, Meatloaf/Cher and The Mobiles, little else of interest to me tonight. I'm bored of the HL song.

Very, very average show. 5/10. Far better coming up next week which I'll catch up with in due course.

Yes, but the camera shot sequence looks very familar - and again Jo is slightly late looking into the camera for the first low level shot. I wonder if they just rehearsed one studio performance for both weeks?
Could well be. It's a shame they didn't do more studio performances of 'Don't You Want Me'.

Love this Mobiles song. Sounds like a Toyah song to me though. I can totally imagine her singing it.
Poor man's Kate Bush.
Mobiles- Cut-price Hazel O'Connor?
Great performance from The Mobiles - even if they are a bit too much like Siouxsie!! Surprised they didn't have more hits!
Amazing we all think of a different singer comparison for The Mobiles singer!!

Won't see the next edition as it's a DLT show but we then get 5 in a row uninterrupted.

Yes, the end sequence with those body builders was shocking and nearly ruined 'It Must Be Love'.

Above average show for me, possibly 7/10.

Trivia alert: I recall Tommy Vance saying on the Sunday Top Forty chart rundown at the time that all the men in that group had dark hair which had been bleached but the black haired female singer was a natural blonde.
Hey - snap!! Yes - I remember that being said too!!!

He says his sun rises in the east but he pointed westwards. This guy won't be finding his way home any time soon.
Ha - very perceptive of you! Maybe he knew we'd be watching facing towards him!

Indeed. I was closest with Toyah though. Not looks wise obviously, but vocally and potential song fit to another. I could imagine Hazel perhaps doing that one also though.

Yes - I could imagine Toyah singing it! But their looks have to be a Siouxsie replica!!

Not a bad show tonight! Warmed up from Meat Loaf onwards! 6 out of 10 from me - but a 7/10 if they'd played Foreigner!

That's the one.

Just surprised no-one else seemed to spot it as it was pretty obvious.

I'm surprised I spotted it - I'm not one of the 'Mmmmmmm' brigade & usually very unobservant actually! Ha!

I think the verses sound like Toyah, and the chorus sounds like Siouxsie. Stylistically it may also be a little like Hazel too, but the vocal doesn't sound especially like her.

'Stool Pigeon' is a great track. I bought the single at the time.
Me too, the 12" is simply awesome what with Nile Rodger's funky guitar licks underpinning the groove! He played on 'I'm a wonderful thing, baby' too. His sound is unmistakable The album Tropical Gangsters was one of my favourite LPs of the year! Possibly overlooked nowadays and seen as novelty even but the musicianship is second-to-none and August Darnell was one cool dude!

Ah ok. Well spotted Ursula! I must have seen that video dozens of times but can't say I've ever noticed that. That makes me think they're might be an edited version of the video also. I will watch that one a bit closer on my next viewing.

Oh, yep, very much agree. Actually the singer also vaguely reminded me of Grace Slick from Starship, which is probably a bit random! I think it was the wide eyed thing she kept doing. Interesting Grace 'then and now' type shot here. http://www.whale.to/c/jefferson_starship.html

I remember thinking Grace Slick was rather gorgeous the first time I saw the old footage of her singing 'White Rabbit' in 1967 aged 27 with the swirling psychedelic camera effects in the background.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WANNqr-vcx0

There are some more recent videos of her being interviewed on YouTube. Obviously a lot of water has passed under the bridge since she was in her prime but it was interesting to see how time had treated her.

Wow, she was a stunner in her youth wasn't she. And for reasons of diplomacy I'll leave that there. I bet she's had a life more interesting than most though.

Always liked Shakatak but not Shalamar!
I wonder if Shalamar and Shakatak ever considered joining forces? They could call themselves Shakalamatak!
