I've wanted to watch the first episode of The Tube from November 1982 for ages now, but amazingly it hasn't appeared on YouTube or any other video sites as far as I know.

For some reason the episodes seem to be under lock & key. I cannot see why Channel 4 cannot repeat them. The Tube years were great & it was the most exciting of music shows ( even better than TOTP ) from an exciting time!

Didn't Sky Arts repeat some editions? Or am I imagining things? (Quite possibly …)

The rights are owned by ITV - so I see no reason why they wouldn't want to exploit what they have sat in their archive. The only glitch may be to do with clearing rights for all the music - I seem to recall BBC Four striking some kind of special deal with with the MU or the PRS (or someone) which makes the TOTP repeats cost-effective. And I can't see Channel 4 wanting to stump up any money for that given that they've blown a shedload on future series of GBBO …

I want to add my sincere condolences to the family and friends of the remarkably talented Rod Temperton who sadly left us today far too young. Every single person young and old knows his music even if few may know his name. So much to appreciate about such unassuming brilliance.

Quite the reverse may I suggest. You are one of my 'top ten' reads on here when I browse. Why indeed? Send in the Goombay bunch at the double.

Bad posters are ten a penny across social media forums around the net. This very place has one or two of them and a troll or two. Good ones are less common but this Pops thread is fortunate to have attracted lots of remarkably good ones which is why it is worth a weekly browse.

I took Brazil and his commercial radio employer to task 2 years ago elsewhere on this website over comments he made on his breakfast show the morning after the hugely talented Robin Williams, a man I've met long ago, passed away unexpectedly. Breakfast shows aren't what they used to be. On a positive note he at least manages to keep the corporate hospitality industry ticking over rather nicely. About the best I can say there.

I wondered why the Pops was not doing this in 1974!

That sounds promising about Tony B! <- Another one who has been used & cast aside as if the last 50 years have meant nothing! ”

Thanks to all those people on here and some from elsewhere who sent a message in private to me supporting my previous comments about Dave. There were 14 in my inbox by this evening. What bothers me is why any of you felt you could not express your sympathetic views on the matter openly in this Pops forum? There should be no fear in nailing personal opinion to the mast.

Ursula you are correct. History can never be re-written. We have to accept that I'm afraid, for better and worse.

I'd really like to see all of those episode from the Tube and can't wait for the TOTP from the autumn too. I was without a tv in late 82 and would like to catch up on all those music shows of my youth.

Yes true!

I have heard that other sites have a lot of bad poster comments - I read the odd one occasionally. To be honest - I'm surprised this one is so well natured with all our differences & the odd person (including me) putting their foot in it, from time to time! However, it is good to have you as our honorary member!

Not sure. I know there have been a few 'best Of's' - but they are never the same!!

Me too! - Actually, for some reason our area couldn't get Channel 4 in the beginning - so I missed the first few months of it too!

Rich Tea is a bit of a ring leader in pulling everyone together and creating a feelgood atmosphere, because he's very friendly, and has very good social skills. I always enjoy reading his posts, even if i don't always agree with him. He's very good at reminiscing, and at times i almost feel i know him, although we have never met. He has great writing skills, and is great at actually coming across like a real person through his use of language. That's some skill, and one which i admire. I hope he returns soon!.

You sound a bit like his No 1 fan there Jedikiah!! - I didn't think RT actually was taking a break for a bit - but then I cannot remember the last time he commented either. - I'm sure he will return soon!

Our tv was out of action for most of that year I think. Must have been not long after the falklands war ended. I was doing a media course in school which involved doing film reviews so it must have been around for that part of the year.

So anyway Channel 4 and their lax atitude to replaying the Tube my idea is they put it on their freeview music channel 4 music it would fit in there nicely.

Not really his No 1 fan. I think we all have something to offer, and are all very good in our own individual ways!

I hope they are shown eventually. Incidentally, I never actually watched a live episode of the show. I wasn't aware of it at the time and my parents weren't interested in that sort of programme, although I seem to remember they did watch other things on Channel 4 in the early/mid 80s (such as some of the films with the infamous triangle in the bottom corner of the screen to indicate it was an adults only film).

Yes, but let's not think Dave was the only person at the BBC, who enjoyed a bit of fun. Many women are up for a little flirting, too, and they are especially attracted to those men who have a degree of fame and wealth attached to their name. In daily life, given the context, you can always find as many women up for it as men, and actively encourage what they see as harmless fun. They are not all prim and proper, and playing the innocent party always when these incidents occur. I think it is important to take these things into consideration. I have had incidents myself, where girls have been very forward with me, and I'm neither wealthy, famous, or especially good looking. However, if i was, the potential of that happening, would be multiplied many thousand times. I am not denying Dave hasn't been foolish to a degree, at times, in leaving himself vunerable to the accusations. However, like the rest of us, he's not infallible, and although his name has featured strongly, there are many many highly regarded public figures who may be just as guilty, even though perhaps they may have appeared that little more discreet. Dave is no rapist or paedophile, and i think his punishment far outways his indiscretions. If every interpretation of so called 'groping' as opposed to rape etc. was investigated with regard to the BBC, with the same scrutiny which has been given Dave, there is a good chance the station would be forced to close down indefinitely.

I didn't realise Barry Blue produced Heatwave - on looking at Wiki he's been quite a prolific one elsewhere too.

Exactly!!

One thing that angers me is that there are so many more much worse & serious crimes out there - murder, torture, rape, etc etc. I'm a woman & I know it can't be nice to be "man handled" inappropriately (in fact It probably has happened to me in a pub or a club in the past) - yes some reprimand should be issued - but rather than running off crying to the nearest police station, I would rather the police spent their time & resources dealing with the more serious crimes & shaming those people who really DESERVE to be shamed!!
Let's get things into perspective here!!
