Don't pay any attention to that website link you provided there. I've seen it before and it's a pile of nonsense in terms of meaning anything. The lists have nothing to do with sales but simply tallying chart positions in a system.

I have the radio programme on iPod that you mention from Tommy Vance on Radio 1, The Best Selling Singles Of 1982 broadcast on Sunday 2nd January 1983. Right at the start he makes a little speech about record sales and them being lower in summer than winter and you might wonder why certain songs have not appeared. Then he reads out positions 40 to 33 and then plays from No32 onwards. Charlene's I've Never Been To Me, a summer No1, does not appear in the forty on this show. The No21 seller is announced as Rockers Revenge, Walking On Sunshine, a song that made only No4.

These charts always throw up some fascinating revelations.
'I've Never Been To Me' by Charlene was the 47th best selling single of 1982.

Cheers highlander. An unhappy time at school and a number of family deaths in that period made it difficult. I always think songs are greater triggers for memories, both good and bad, and there are a number of songs that I can't listen too from that period.

Anyway, 1982 arrives, I sit my 'O' levels, the 1982 World Cup, and the usual Scottish crazy way of getting knocked out and King Creole and the Coconuts, whom I assume we will see at some point.

Two of the best British defenders ever collide with each other.

If The Story of 1982 is shown here is my predictions of what will be mentioned.

- The cold winter of 1981 as it went into the New Year
- Falklands War
- Eurovision Song Contest as it was the year our country hosted it
- Culture Club's debut TOTP performance as it was a talking point in the School Playground the day after
- Singer of Shalamar doing his amazing dance move to Night To Remember
- Fame which was the TV Series which everyone on Britain was addicted to watching
- Launch of Channel 4 and their Music TV show The Tube which was Top of the Pops arch nemesis.
- The Jam performing Precious and Town Called Malice on the same episode
- Dexy's Midnight Runners performance of Jacky Wilson Says with the photo of Jocky Wilson on the TV Screen
- ABBA and The Jam disbanding
- Christmas number one which was Save Me Your Love which was the worst Xmas number one of all time.
- Build up to the end of the year and preview of 1983 during the closing credits

That's a lot to fit in for a one hour show about the year a good Music show.
Who on earth bought that Renee and Renato song

But on the plus side Irene Cara has a number 1, Nicole the Eurovision winner hits the top spot.
Wham! as well
And Musical Youth

Greetings, I've just transitioned from the 1981 thread. Looking forward to both 1982 and 1983, my favourite years for pop music, and my earliest memories of listening to music.

Looking forward to some of the best songs they can't show because of being on Jimmy and DLT 1982 hosted shows.

Unfortunately the famous Jeffrey Daniel body-popping performance is on an episode presented by DLT. 26th June I think.

Oh well maybe Jeffrey can be fitted into some other TOTP show perhaps. I must have been down the pub that night as I have no memory of his routine.

We won't see the whole performance but I believe there will be a 2 minute bit about that on the 'Story of 1982' programme at 10pm.

Excellent. Thanks for that. Will seem weird not watching 'The Story of...' around new year.

Ah, 1982, the year I was born.

That alone makes me feel confident that I won't get bored with the repeats and stop watching them as I have done with each of the previous two '80s years.

(I have Sky+'d them all, though, so I will eventually watch them when I have the chance.)

What a shame! I don't remember it, looks a good one.

Land Of Make Believe was written by a member of King Crimson! What, who'd have thought!
