He can't sing, at least IMO, that's half the problem and when he tries its all nasally and whinny sounding to my ears. And that for me at least is a shame because some of the actual songs are brilliant. It doesn't seem to have happened as yet but I can imagine many of the PSB's songs getting covered (and/or sampled) by new artists in years to come.

A good debut post. I wish there were more Radio 1 Round Table's out there to enjoy. Hearing "oldies" talked about as brand new un-charted singles is fascinating stuff. I was recently wondering if Ebony & Ivory was reviewed on that programme and what must have been said of it, considering it polarised opinion on here. It was a bit infuriating — I kept noticing things that I thought would be interesting to other posters on here, like the names of some of the dancers people were asking about, but I couldn't let anyone know who they were. I even tried to see if some of the people on here had Twitter pages where I might be able to contact them, but that didn't work either.

Nice to see Japan at number 32 in the album chart with Tin Drum. I think it spent most of 1982 in the charts, quite a feat for such an un-commercial LP.

That album chart is a sea of absolute riches waiting to be discovered alongside some of the best known ones.

Not sure I'll be getting up and dancing in leg warmers to BBC newsreader Angela Rippon though.

Hoping not to cause another thread meltdown, but in the light of the BBCs decision to re-employ Tony Blackburn, could they see it in their hearts to also reinstate DLT TotP episodes? He's done his bird (bad choice of words), I mean he's completed his sentence, so what's to stop them?

Yes they were Andy! Infact DLT's episodes were shown nearly up until November 1977!

The reason I found this forum in the first place, was after hearing the threat of stopping the TOTP reruns with all the Yewtree scandal. - I knew there must've been like minded people out there somewhere who wanted the show to still go on!!

Blimey, this thread is moving at a fast pace and we haven't even had another episode of TOTP yet! I last posted at midday yesterday and the thread has jumped forward by 5 pages since then!

Yes, the 10th June episode certainly got off to a highly impressive start, with Kid Creole, Soft Cell (even if i do prefer their previous big single releases), and The Associates. It must have been in the 1982 period that i actually last heard Kid Creole's ''I'm A Wonderful Thing Baby'', and at the time i really didn't appreciate its quality. Listening back now, it really does sound like a great single release. The Associates ''Club Country'' is another very impressive release from them also, even if, for me, it pales a little by the side of ''Party Fears Two''. Yes, Billy Mackenzie did have great charisma.

The rest of the episode didn't quite live up to that great start, though. Jonathan King's US chart segment proved interesting, as we've been missing them on the regular BBC 4 repeats, but the type of FM radio soft rock sounds of the day, really are nauseating in their unoriginality and blandness, and it's a reminder that although there are certain things i haven't enjoyed about these 1982 charts in recent months during this period, things could have been much much worse.

Diana Ross' ''Work That Body'' did very little for me either, and it was the one record i remember feeling was the moment i stopped taking for granted that Diana would always release material of a certain high standard. The video made up for it a little, mind, because her body looked great still in this period, in her swim wear. Stevie Wonder's ''Do I Do'' is one of his last from a rather prolific run of truly memorable songs. Not one of his very best, in my opinion, but it still had the hallmarks of class, which he wouldn't find so easy to maintain in the years that followed. I wasn't so keen on the Zoo interpretation of the song, mind, or the general clutter of the Top Of The Pops studio. I can probably take or leave Genesis' ''Paperlate'', and it does sound to me a little too close to Phil Collins solo material, for me to appreciate as an authentic type Genesis release (i do agree the verses, and Tony Banks keyboard playing helps distinquish it a little). Adam Ant's ''Goody Two Shoes'' isn't bad, but i do prefer the Ants earlier material.

There is definitely a disconnect with Jimmy Savile, in terms of him showing any authentic appreciation of the music. He was perhaps always a little that way, but it showed a lot more, the older he got, and the more out of step he seemed with the music of the younger generation. The gap definitely seemed to have widened, in the last half dozen or so years for him while he was presenting, and it was a gap he had no chance of bridging even if he had wanted to. I agree with Rich Tea in that Dave Lee Travis was a highly impressive Top Of The Pops presenter, still during this period, and may just have been the very best. In the context of the Hurll era at this point, he certainly blew the likes of my previous favourite, Kid Jensen away.
