Re-release to promote the band's newly released greatest hits album.
Plus it was issued on a picture disc, which helped sales to a Silver certification for 250,000 sales which was rare for a non top 20 single at the time.

Such a shame Irene didn't do as well as she deserved.

I think she had one more good hit after this.

Leroy died back in 2003.

So many of that cast are memorable instantly you see them again.

Fame is the summer of 1982 in a nutshell.

Lots of slightly old songs doing well in the charts in 1982: The Model (1978), Being Boiled (1978), Fame (1979/80), I Second That Emotion (1980).

How many weeks were we into Fame series 1 at this point? Wasn't it being played out straight after totp?

I've got the week Fame went to No1 on tape with the "Britain's No1" jingle before it begins. Loved that No1 jingle.

Oh yes, Flashdance, how could I forget that.

Both great songs, sum up the 80s and 80s films in an instance.

I recorded Fame from Gambo's weekly American chart countdown in summer 1980 and used to dig it out to listen to when 'Fame' was at number 1!

Looking forward to Irene Cara's Flashdance...What A Feeling getting to number two in the charts in the summer of 1983. One of my favourite hits of the 1980s.

8.10 FAME: To Soar And Never Falter

The hot house performing arts students sink their personal ambitions to aid a girl whose health is putting her dancing future in doubt. Debbie Allen, Lee Curreri, Erica Gimpel lead the already popular teenage drama.

It's very, very 80's. So much so, the record sleeve is pushed up to it's elbow.
