Cliff is willing to settle with the BBC out of court. One of the conditions which the BBC has apparently accepted is that his new and old records are going to be played on Radio 1 again throughout all daytime shows.

Typical, I'm attempting to listening to the late night TOTP and my BT connection is once again cutting out. I live virtually next door to the BT exchange - it's literally a two minute walk away, if even that so I should be getting top speed for "streaming" - so why does it keep cutting out at this time of night?

You're correct but it gets a bit confusing. There was the version with the original DHSS lyrics and a later version with much of that changed.
The 'Special US Version' which charted in '83 retains the original lyrics...if that makes any sense?

As for this edition, kicking off with that ace Hot Chocolate single and I would have reckoned on It Started With A Kiss being a future No1 far more than Dexy's Come On Eileen.

I remember that David Essex single strongly from summer '82 as it was played very frequently on our new local radio station at the time, Chiltern. Infact it was around about July 1982 that I used to tune in to DJ Paul Hollingdale on Chiltern Radio each Saturday lunchtime playing the chart. But I always wondered why it seemed to differ from the one already out that week proper. I soon found out it was the chart for just our local area of Herts, Beds and Bucks. I'd sure love to see some of those local charts now, wherever they might have ended up.

I loved it at the time and bought the single. Nice vid with John Hurt. Not sure if Paul is too keen on it as it didn't appear on his '87 compilation 'All the Best'.

It Started With A Kiss is such a great return to form by Hot Chocolate after the bland Girl Crazy, up there with their 1970 singles, Emma, No Doubt About It and their best ever So You Win Again. However, Come On Eileen is much much more an obvious future Number 1. Sounds great now, sounded fantastic when first heard in 1982.

'Wake Me Up...' and 'I'm Your Man' are the weakest of the Wham singles for me. I'd rather listen to The Club Fantastic Megamix!

The song Sealclubbing off Back in the DHSS Again is a take on Nightclubbing, that (rubbish) David Essex song that featured on the show tonight.

Same as you Ian, I loved that Macca single Take It Away at the time and still do. Just perfect for listening to in a car with the roof down type of song. Definitely has a more American radio feel to it and so no surprise to find out it was No10 on the Billboard Hot 100, whereas it managed just No15 here.

As for that Leo Sayer single, someone mentioned it was written by the Bee Gees which really shocked me as it was so very poor. Leo's chart career came to a sudden crashing halt just about this era. Hard to fully explain why.

I didn't notice that 'Take it Away' made Top 10 in America.
I recall it's slow climb up the UK Top 40:
33-30-25-20-15 it was at that point when next weeks chart came out and it was mentioned that there were 7 non movers (I think by DLT) on the chart that week (which was pretty unusual). I just knew 'Take it Away' would be a non-mover. Sure enough it was.

If I remember correctly It Started With A Kiss made it into the Top 40 best-selling singles of 1982 so perhaps it was a bit unlucky only getting to number 5 on the weekly chart. It sold more copies than number ones such as Happy Talk and I've Never Been To Me.

Actually it'll be interesting to see if the BBC iPlayer version is any different to the one just broadcast.
