Try to be a bit careful with 4shared links. I have a windows machine and a Chromebook. On Windows I get a load of nasty messages when I go on 4shared - I think that your anti virus needs to be very well clued up for that site. But on my Chromebook, it loads up quite quickly with not a load of muck to cope with.

Just a bit of friendly advice, if you just use a computer for fairly basic stuff and you do not want to worry about anti virus software and all that stuff, I would really seriously recommend investing in a Chromebook laptop rather than a windows machine. For some reason Chromebooks do not need anti virus software at all, and they load up ready to use really quickly - and do not slow down after a few years of use either. (linux maybe???)

The only real problem with Chromebooks is that you cannot save much stuff directly to your laptop, it is mainly saved on Google Drive, plus there are a very small minority of websites that it cannot load properly, but that maybe more to do with their anti virus protection etc.

Just a thought for those who are thinking of renewing their laptops in the near future. If you are not a serious computing wizard but like having good access to the mainstream internet, buying a Chromebook may be a good investment.

Yes I thought you were joking, but I just wanted to put the info out there.

They were better than Glee albums.

Bit of a mixed bag tonight - a couple of efforts that were more fun than quality (Madness / Bad Manners), a dire novelty song (Brat), and three quality songs towards the end (Stranglers / Dexys / Survivor)... and even a watchable routine from Zoo to finish with for that excellent Survivor track...arguably one of the finest movie soundtrack number 1's...

It was nice to see Madness in the studio after all of the video showings of House of Fun, even if this isn't anywhere near their best... one of my favourite Madness tracks due before the end of 1982 though with 'Our House' (I think that's the only single of theirs I ever bought!).

5/10 on the night... do we get to see either the video or a performance from Survivor (or are they all Jimmied?).

As someone else said, Late Junction on Radio 3 is a good listen.

Right, well off topic now. I have not seen it yet, but would I be right in thinking that tonights TOTP82 is presented by the sublime John Peel?”

I'm mostly a 6Music, 5Live and Radio4Extra listener but dip into other stations variously depending on my mood.

Oh jeez. The Heart FM Saturday tape. Every Saturday afternoon the same 10 songs in the same order.

"What time is it?"

I actually liked many of the Bad Manners hits, prior to ''My Girl Lollipop'', so i wouldn't agree with you there. However, ''My Girl Lollipop'', was possibly the most disappointing song of the night. Potentially the group could really have tapped into the ska rhythm of those previous versions and made the song memorable for a new generation, but the song barely had rhythm at all, just a very processed sound.

A pretty uninspiring episode all round, with many songs from the previous weeks i didn't especially like the first time, even though this time round some of the performances may have been different. Madness' ''Driving In My Car'' doesn't impress me any more, having their "Maddiemobile" brought into the studio - another side to the Hurll years i don't particularly like. A lot of visual glamour, of a sort, but still very little musical substance, which i think is what is the most important. The glamour doesn't quite disguise the mediocrity for me.

Junior's ''Too Late'' may seem vastly inferior to ''Mama Used To Say'' overall, but it does have a way of growing on me. It works in reverse to ''Mama Used To Say'', who's attributes pretty much hits you immediately, and then the song starts to become more and more tedious on successive listens. ''Too Late'' has more to offer than initially meets the eye (or ear!), but it still strikes me as a very poor single release.

Donna Summer's ''Love Is In Control'' is ok, and possibly more interesting than some of the tracks on the show, as it hasn't suffered from over exposure. However, it isn't amongst Donna's best work, in my opinion, or even particularly memorable. Not sure i like the Zoo routine to it either. I presume someone must have decided the track wasn't sufficiently interesting, just being accompanied by the video - hence the inclusion of Zoo.

Kid Creole's ''Stool Pigeon'' is an interesting track too, and he creates a rather individual sound, which is very distinctive. I'm not too sure i would choose to listen to it too frequently, though. and i was getting bored even half way through this Top Of The Pops performance. For me, ''I'm A Wonderful Thing Baby'' was much better.

The Stranglers ''Strange Little Girl'' seemed to be the first, and possibly only song which seemed to invest in any real emotional depth, and this is the eighth track into the show! Not that pop can't be frivolous, of course, but the balance has certainly shifted in the last year or two of watching these repeats. I don't think for a second ''Strange Little Girl'' is up with the group's earlier punk inspired sound, but it does work well for them.

Dexys Midnight Runners ''Come On Eileen'' works well, and back in the day, i found it extremely infectious, but for me it is one of those songs that can wear a little thin and irritating after repeated listens, which is something i could never say for ''Geno''. Survivor's ''Eye Of The Tiger'' made for an effective closing track, although i'm not a great fan of the song.

Overall, another rather mediocre episode. In a sense i actually found this episode rather grim, and sobering, and especially viewing the unedited version featuring The Brat's ''Chalk Dust''. The charts really weren't in a very healthy state in this period of 1982. The good news is i think tonight's episode looks rather more interesting.

4/10

Can understand your point fully. I thought Mackenzie and David Sylvian were sooooooooooooo different to anything else around at the time. that's one reason I thought the Associates were so unique. From what I remember they were Steve Wright In the afternoons favourite band at that time... and Mike Read was an Icicle works man.........

Ironically Love Hangover was one of the few records I bought both the original AND cover version.....so yes loved both versions. The Bass on the Diana Ross track was amazing

I've still got that highlights of that race on DVD - one where the Brabham of Piquet, with his light fuel load , shot off into the distance with the intention of refuelling and getting out in front still. Didn't happen due to his coming together with Salazar. No footage of Peroni crash which is just as well

Were The Coconuts under orders not to smile on last night's edition? They all looked as miserable as sin!

I think that was just their "look"! - Have we missed 'Annie I'm Not You're Daddy' yet? I know one of their songs was Yewtreed, I think!

I'm not normally into soul, dance or funk music - but there was always something about Kid Creole & his Coconuts that I liked.

I was excited about being last night's edition as it's one I'd not seen before. I'm sure if I hadn't I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much as I did and my score would have been lower than the eight and a quarter I'm giving it.

I was surprised, but really pleased, that Madness were in the studio to perform Driving In My Car. I've already said it's not my fave of their hits, but this was more enjoyable to watch than the video. Not sure what the smoking skeleton was meant to symbolise, but I'm sure it wasn't an anti-smoking message!

Nice to see Junior back with Too Late. It is definitely a grower. I was pleased he'd ditched the cosy pullover (leave those to Leo Sayer!) and was trying to dress a bit more trendier to match the song. I was annoyed by him having his hand stuck in his trouser pocket most of time. During this I was admiring the different style of deeley-boppers worn by the audience. I had the stars one.

I didn't think they'd re-stage The Brat's Chalkdust again, so extra points for that. I enjoyed it, though I can understand why some might be happy it was edited from the earlier showing. The best bit was definitely the look of horror on those two girls faces when he fell down and almost knocked them over!

I was soooo annoyed over that Donna's Summer's video was just played out on the screen on the back while Zoo took centre stage. I'm guessing Michael Hurll thought that Donna was too old and mumsy to appeal to the young TOTP viewers - unlike Zoo. What a disrepectful way to treat such a big star.

I wasn't bothered about seeing The Belle Stars doing The Clapping Song again, but its not a song I dislike that much I had to fast forward through. I doubt we'll be seeing it again.

The highpoint for me was defintely Kid Creole And The Coconuts' Stool Pigeon, my fave of their hits. The Kid looked really cool and I bet the female cheerleaders/Zoo dancers were jealous of the Coconuts.

I'd forgotten that Bad Manners were going to turn up with My Girl Lollipop and was surprised that I didn't mind it. It was certainly better than their performance of Lorraine. Buster must have been absolutely boiling in that fur coat!

There was definitely a change of pace with The Stranglers Strange Little Girl. I doubt they can have enjoyed the live party atmosphere of TOTP but were willing to appear to get sales. I didn't realise that song was actually 8 years old at the time.

Of course I knew that Dexys would be no. 1 but was thinking that maybe we'd get the video for the first time. I can understand them wanting to come back to the TOTP studio to celebrate it, though, and I'm sure we'll be seeing it in due course.

After one monster number one we get the one that follows it - Eye Of Tiger. While I was still annoyed at Zoo, I was curious how they would dance to this. At one point they seemed to be doing a can can. That guy running out of shot should've joined in!

'I'm a Wonderful Thing...' was Jimmied as was 'Annie...' on the October 7th edition. 'Annie...' gets a playout on a Powell show on October 21st but I don't think Kid or his Coconuts are there.

We'll get 'Eye of the Tiger' 4 times. Once on it's way to No.1 and 3 out of it's 4 week run at the top. No studio performances though, just the video.

Just caught up with last night's episode - not too exciting as we'd seen most of it last Thursday.

Sometfhing I noticed in the Junior performance though - I'm pretty sure that in the previous performance the third verse was a repeat of the first verse, whereas this time he sung a different third verse, where the drunken husband knocks his wife to the floor. Was this verse considered too strong for TOTP first time, but they later relented?

Bad Manners really scraping the bottom of the barrel with "My Girl Lollipop" - no wonder their time was just about up.

The Brat seemed determined to injure a couple of audience members this time - I would have been very worried if I'd been in that group that were sitting with their backs to the set.

Loved it when the fat guy walked right across shot just as Zoo were starting their routine to "Eye Of The Tiger"! And that routine! - yeah, I'm sure that's exactly what Survivor had in mind when they crafted their soft-metal anthem...

Thankfully we get a bunch of new songs tonight - one of them "John Wayne Is Big Leggy" is far ruder than "Relax" ever was, but presumably Mike Read wasn't paying attention at the time.
