I bought this Donna single on 12 inch at the time. Didn't play it very often though and didn't put it on my pod either , so I really enjoyed it this week. At the time you could buy 12 inch version of singles for 99p in Edinburgh so I dully boosted my 12 inch collection. I also bought Donna's next single for 99p on 12 inch but had to pay the full whack for the remixed 'I feel love' later in the year.

I like it too, it tells quite a sad story about domestic violence I believe. I think he has a fine falsetto and does anybody think that the groove of 'Too Late' is loosely based on Herb Albert's 'Rise'? A fine talent vocally Junior who perhaps didn't reach the potential he deserved and he veered to into the rock/pop style as the 80s progressed for my liking! Still goin' now doin' the odd retro soul weekender gig and looks younger now than he did then but that's awful 80s styling for you!

Strachan out.

Ooops ... wrong forum.

Think that those who opted for the Pops rather than the footie got it right.

Just record the later version then you don't need to worry about what has been edited out.

I would agree with this. Alf is looking good here. Vince should have stuck with her.

Great song ( Can't take my eyes of you ) not enhanced by this performance.

Love hangover is likewise good though not as good as the original.

I doubt the highlighting of the dancers had anything to do with their sexuality. More likely to do with their woodenness. Please tell me I'm right....

A great Rod Temperton written track from our Donna, that awesome voice of hers & the killer track from an otherwise so-so album despite the Quincy Jones connection. This could have been a great comeback for our Donna but I think all his attention was going into making MJs 'Thriller' a masterpiece. Zoo's rendition was OK too & full of energy & I liked some of the free-style moves of those funky gun slingers too

Loathed Hayzi , but found Wavelength surprisingly fine. Have no recollection of the latter from the time.

Loved Kool & the Gang and the tumblers. Yet another track I bought on 12 inch but have ignored since. Recurring theme here.

Well, he was referring to the way they were swinging their arms, and said something along the lines of 'i'm sure they like to pull the heads off rabbits in their spare time', but in 1982 it was still acceptable to make anti-gay comments.

I also remember hearing Steve Wright on R1 around the same time saying 'Say Hello, Wave Goodbye' in one of those so-called gay voices.

It states that Scritti Politti had previously been No.25 with their latest single - yet Junior had been No.25 in the chart rundown I just watched.

Typo?

If the repeats continue to 1984, wont that situation with the chart rundown potentially happen, thanks to Glitter?

Think someone put a mock YT link.

Have to agree with you Ursula: Toto Coelo were shocking visually and aurally.
If ever hear IEC again it will be a day too soon.

I do remember the Steve Wright micky taking of Soft Cell. And his homophobic single about Gay Cavalieros.

The Platters were a bit late getting in on the medley action. By mid 1982 it definitely had all but died out.

I haven't a clue who Vic Young is / was and this seems to have been his only release but one thing I do know is it's not the theme tune to the TV programme of the same name as that was 3 years away from its first broadcast! What I do know is that the record was first released in 1980 and was produced by Trevor Spencer, one half of the Tarney Spencer Band (Alan Tarney being Cliff Richard's producer of choice at the time as well as one of his main songwriters). Trevor Spencer did contribute to a number 1 single - he plays the drums on Cliff's 'We Don't Talk Anymore'.

Chicago seem to have been 'bubbling under' for weeks now. 'Hard to say I'm sorry' would eventually be a big hit for them.

Love the Liquid Gold single - so different to their usual fare. Supposedly written for Hot Chocolate who turned it down.

Also like Carly Simon 'Why' and Fashion's 'Love Shadow'.

I absolutely love 'Why' by Carly Simon. It was featured in the flop film 'Soup For One'. The soundtrack was produced (and largely written, including 'Why') by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. From memory, re-releases and remixes aside, it was the last hit for the Chic Organisation.

I also liked 'Love Shadow' by Fashion. It was one of the tracks on a compilation album I bought back in October 1982 called 'Modern Heroes'. It wasn't the most successful of compilation albums - peaking at number 24 on the Album charts in mid October 1982 - and is most likely largely unknown but I thought it was a great album
