50% of that early showing must have been cut tonight. Back at 12.25am then.

Another bit that wouldn't have made it onto TOTP:

"They pushed that girl in front of the train
Took her to the doctor, sewed her arm on again"

I always record both shows, but it didn't work last night as my box went into a reboot loop.

I think they are both superb, but Glittering is a bit more subtly beautiful I think.

I also love speed your love to me (in 1984)? Which has a an amazing chorus and manages to be epic without being pompous. After Speed, I don't think they managed that

How did you do?

I only managed six, but could've got a couple more with a bit more time to think. That guy was very good.

What about the difference between a "chart entry" and a "new entry" then? I only noticed this while watching nowadays and it never registered with me at the time.

I think the difference is that a chart entry is a song that's climbed from a position outside the top 30 into the 30, whereas a new entry has literally gone straight into the chart as a whole that week.

Promised You a Miracle by far!! (But not the new version though! )

Well a pretty average show tonight - but after seeing the later edition I'll be giving it a definite 7/10!

I don't wish to brag but i got 10. Yep that's 10. Didn't get the video game one and the Swiss City he recorded "Lodger" in.

If i was to appear on Mastermind my specialist subject would have to be "Simon Bates 1980-82".

Simple Minds were credited as a 'new entry' by climbing from 38-28 and Adam Ant and The Jam were 'chart entries' as they went straight in at No.22 and No.5 respectively. It's pretty confusing. I would call Simple Minds a climber.

Surely you'd have to inadvertently give all the wrong answers.

It seems like we're speeding towards 1983! Culture Club and Musical Youth could be on the show by next Friday, and Tears For Fears must be very close to appearing.

great show, remember when every song sounded completely different, those were the days, Abc sounding brilliant on strictly tonight.

I don't like Dire Straits, but I absolutely love Private Investigations. It's great that it got all the way up to No2 in the chart. It was just so typical, and I knew it would happen, that last night on TOTP they didn't even begin to do it justice and actually allow it to play both in and out to its full potential but massacred it to bits instead. The single lasts 6 minutes 45 seconds.

How can Clare call it the worst No2 of the 80's?

Certainly very different to their other No2 hit Walk Of Life in early '86.

You're right

The one i always remember with Simes was when he was introducing The Sugarhill Gangs 'Rappers Delight' and he just said "and now we have The Rapper". No mention of the song title or name of the act at all. Just left for the audience to guess
