I believe the Jocky Wilson episode isn't being shown- that is more gutting for me than any episode not being made available for the presenter was
Yep, that edition had a whole host of Radio 1 DJ's including Jimmy Savile, Jonathan King and DLT so it will be locked away in the vaults for eternity.
It's a shame that 'Jocky' Wilson Said' only had one performance on Top of the Pops due to it climbing and falling so suddenly -26-5-6-10-17-26-56
It's one of my favourite songs of '82.

Dexy's Midnight Runners - 'Jackie Wilson Said (I'm In Heaven When You Smile)'. Top of the Pops studio:

I'm guessing this edition will appear online somewhere tonight.

I reckon so. Most of the performances are individually on Youtube if anyone needs to 'Frankenstein' together the skipped editon!

Yikes!! - The vault will probably explode into pieces with all those personalities on the one episode!! There will be a "Warning - do not enter" sign stuck on the door as we speak!!

There should be a "watch at your own risk" warning attached to Friend or Foe - some seriously dodgy DJ dad dancing

Or Grandad dancing in the case of Savile, aged 50 something by this point!

The November 4th edition has been posted on Youtube. Slightly edited at 23 minutes (obviously not a Shaky fan). Culture Club at No.1 and the playout by Sharon Redd are edited out but at least it's more than we'll get from BBC4. Not sure how long it will be there so maybe watch while you can.

I've got a copy on DVD. I could post it online provided I wouldn't get into trouble.

Seeing as we won't get to see that delight here it is! How a pretty good song can be murdered by Radio 1 DJ's.
Warning: This clip......well you know what I'm gonna say....

Very interesting and looks worth a watch doesn't it. That's a show I never expected to be given a revival. It used to be pretty good back in its day though.

One of my other interests is election night shows and I've posted a lot of footage on my YouTube channel from the BBC's programmes over the years. I got an email from someone at the BBC recently and expected to be told off for posting the footage, but instead they actually told me that it was very useful for them since it meant they didn't have to bother looking at their own archives. So, at least as far as election shows are concerned, the BBC didn't mind me posting their footage. Perhaps it would be different with Top of the Pops.

Could Sarah Greene really have blocked the Mike Smith episodes?
If she has then she shouldn't be able to. Surely the BBC holds the copyright for all it's shows and individual actors and presenters or their surviving relatives should have no say in whether programmes are repeated or not.

Yes thank you - but I couldn't find the actual bit with the album sales on that you listed!

Watching the 4/11 /82 episode, Muscles by Diana Ross is a bit of a forgotten gem in my opinion. Very soulful, and written by Michael Jackson.

But does anyone recognise that guitar segment in Jack and Diane by John Cougar? It sounds very similar to Fast Car by Tracy Chapman...

Surely that should be the other way round? The Cougar (Mellencamp) song came out long before 'Fast Car'.

The "bother" being the time and money it would take to look at the BBC archives, presumably.

I can think of a number of instances - mainly when celebrities and musicians have suddenly died - when the BBC have literally taken clips of them from YouTube and stuck them on the air in news bulletins simply because that's the quickest way of doing so.

Perhaps it would be different with Top of the Pops.
The BBC have been known to object to TOTPs being uploaded to YouTube - but not as much as the record companies, particularly if certain editions feature music that they've digitally fingerprinted to automatically be rejected by the site.

If you are inclined to upload this particular edition, your best bet is to use Vimeo or a file sharing site.

Aw crackin one. To be fair, it is not actually as bad as if you were to say - here is a piece of video with a load of 1980s Radio 1 DJs dancing to Adam Ant..........but it is a bit awful, to be fair

'Muscles' is a good track. I didn't know it was written by Michael Jackson. I love learning new things on this forum!
