This was how far Depeche Mode had come by 2009. This video for their hit 'Wrong' still freaks me out!

Yeah!!! Impeccable good taste listing those songs there Mr T. 4 of DM's very best IMO! Thumb well up from me for that! I'd personally only add, Mmm, maybe...,'Personal Jesus' to those and say there's a total high quality and faultless DM top 5! Which isn't an easy one to do as I've instantly realised it doesn't include 'Never Let Me Down Again', which is yet another top tune from the Basildon boys.

Still amuses and fascinates me that the Depeche Mode we saw tonight is so far away from the one that they'd subsequently become. Sound wise for sure and image wise too, Dave G particularly.

Yes 'Never Let Me Down Again' is a great song. I still have the single in my collection!

A fantastic single by a brilliant and still underrated group. I can only assume that because they are on an independent label, they (like New Order - probably for the same reason) have barely graced any music industry awards. Thankfully they have a following and a career that pay testament to their longevity and talent.

I only heard 'Shake the Disease' about 8 years ago for the first time, and thought it was excellent. It seems to be a good early example of Depeche Mode moving into a slightly more sombre, darker tone with the instrumentation, while preserving memorable verses and choruses and a good lyric.
Should have got slightly higher than it did in the charts at the time (mid teens, I think it reached)

Well, what a waste to skip the 30th Sept episode. Snip the link between Ultravox and Imagination to take out DLT and JK in one hit. Replace the Savile link and DJs dancing with the Friend Or Foe video, edit a little bit from Kid's closing link to keep Savile out of shot and you have a clean episode.

I have no memory of the Roxy Music song in this episode, but the real mystery for me are The Pinkees. How on earth did this p**s-poor piece of pub rock get into the 1982 charts? No recollection of the band or the song whatsoever.

The only Depeche Mode song I really like after 1985 is Personal Jesus. I've tried to get into the rest of their later stuff and just can't do it. But I'm a big fan of their early work, particularly Everything Counts.

I thought we were finally going to get a TOTP Christmas show in 1983 but unfortunately it might not be shown now because Mike Smith was one of the presenters. But the second festive show from 29th December 1983 should still be okay (apart from the Jonathan King segment).

Apart from me, is anyone else watching the late showing of TOTP?

I'm sure 'Zoom' is from the late 70's. Lead singer's sideburns bear that out!

Oh, here's the Dollar song I had to Youtube earlier to remind myself. Not really impressed after the great 'Videotheque'.

I think I'll up my score from a 5 to a 6/10 due to Shalamar being in the studio.
I feel like I'm in an empty room! (Nah, Gary Moore's 3 years away yet)

I'm about to watch the late edition on iPlayer. They've updated it straight away this time.

That was Boy George's first appearance.

I remember watching that at the time, my Dad and I were wondering whether he was a boy or a girl.

I record them all on my Panasonic blu-ray recorder, hit the "series record" button and the lot are put onto the hard drive in broadcast quality (as delivered). Thereafter I can make unlimited copies as the BBC are not allowed to encrypt their programmes. That's after importing them into my P.C for audio over dubbing. I am currently 5000 miles away from the UK. and know that I am not missing any episodes and Panasonic recorders can be set remotely from the other side of the world. Reference Depeche Mode the video is pretty awful however the band were happy with it, it's the "See You" video they dislike and which they blocked from their DVD singles compilation.
