Other top song was Evelyn King. One of those songs though, that had you played it to me and asked what year it was released, I would have suggested at least a couple of years later. Didn't sound like a 1982 song!!”

Thanks to a fantastic production by Kashif, who sadly died a few weeks ago at the age of 59.

Not sure about 'Eye Of The Tiger' but I have been in the eye of the storm these past few days.

Survivor's lead singer attempted to beef up his image by donning a beret but in the event looks more Frank Spencer than Che Guevara.

If Mike Smith had died on the day of its transmission BBC Four could perhaps be excused for postponing the 04/11/82 show for one week, or maybe two, but it is now well over two years since his fatal heart attack and his family have had plenty time to grieve. I just don't get the "logic" that if someone in the public eye dies we should all pretend they never existed. I hope the speculation on here proves to be unfounded but if the BBC do refuse to show his episodes on such dubious grounds they will be taking political correctness to a level unprecedented in the history of broadcasting.

Unlike the juvenile TV commercials I linked to upthread which are an affront to my adult sensibilities and can't be avoided, Mike Smith's family have the choice to either switch off or not bother tuning in. Hopefully I'm barking up the wrong tree but surely it would be wrong for the BBC to pander to such petty whims and deny tens of thousands of licence fee payers (who at the end of the day bankrolled his fat fees) the right to watch repeats of his shows (none of which I saw first time round incidentally).

Thank goodness the family of the late Tommy Vance had more dignity. If (and I say if) the January show hosted by the deceased duo is cancelled it will only serve to demonstrate the contrasting nature and attitude of the two families - i.e. one is public spirited and principled while the other is self-centred, inward-looking, and effectively wants to "spoil the party" for everyone else.

Just caught up to date with the 7th Oct Savile episode. Great to have it, although not really a lot in it that's essential.

Can't quite see the point of Bauhaus's note-for-note reading of Ziggy Stardust. Fine for a live party-piece, maybe, but a single? Almost like covering an Adam Ant song - a song that is particular to it's creator.

One of the less-remembered Spandau hits, although by now they are beginning to look and sound a lot like the band who will produce two hits the following year to pollute the airwaves for all eternity.

Zoo appear to be attempting to recreate a New Orleans strip club on prime time TV - any particular reason why "House Of The Rising Sun" was re-activated at this time?

Another awful Kids From Fame song, which again has no nostalgic resonance for me at all, having never watched the show. Are there many more spin-off singles from the series?

Kid Creole is probably the highlight of this show - another studio performance from them that won't be seen again.

Savile again manages to do the entire chart countdown without mentioning a song title EXCEPT bizarrely "Eye Of The Tiger"! Seeing as he wouldn't tell me, what was the Clash song in the charts?

It was certainly a fairly high profile track at the time.”

Still absolutely no bells being rung by The Pinkees - either they've completely fallen out of my head or they completely passed me by (and bear in mind that I'm just about the only poster on here who remembered seeing The Leyton Buzzards first time round). Must have been some serious chart doping going on to get The Pinkees where they were.

There was a letter in Smash Hits saying they thought Tomorrows World had over run, and it was one of the presenters! (can't remember the name!)

Firstly, we have no proof that any of his episodes beyond the Nov 4th one have been blocked because we haven't yet seen the schedules that they would theoretically be in.

Secondly, if they are ruled out, we have no proof that the reason for them being blocked is because his appearance would upset his wife and family, it could be something completely different.

Thirdly - and perhaps most importantly, if that is the reason, then I don't really think that any of us could state that our upset at not being able to watch a 30+ year old repeat of a music programme would be equal or greater to the upset of people seeing their late husband or relation on screen and being reminded of their loss once again.

I certainly wouldn't go nearly as far as to accuse the family of a deceased man as being "self centred".

The Clash was the double 'A' side 'Should I Stay Or Should I Go'/'Straight to Hell'.
