I only have a handful of Beatles songs. Surprised to hear your not a Stones fan either though! They were much better IMO. Which probably won't be a popular opinion to some.

I'm with you. Starmaker was a horrible record. On the whole though the Autumn of 1982 was strong and I wonder if Peel's admiration of Shalamar was just a running joke. Struck me over the last two evenings that Peel largely played it straight as a solo presenter but did a fine job.

And on the cover of the 'Cafe Bleu' album as well.

An alright edition this evening. More than one track that has stood the test of time. Twice in the case of The Beatles.

Do you have anything by Elvis? I feel a para-phrasing of a Clash lyric coming on!

Well an impressive TOTP tonight - Loved seeing Tears For Fears again, Ultravox - good song & if The Pretenders had been there even better. A bonus having 'Love Me Do' in the charts too - should have got higher back in the 60s.

So overall a 7/10!

Oh yeah - sorry missed that bit!

I did hear him say the bit about "loves coming at you" though. They used to get away with saying a lot back then!!

In my much younger days, I was very opinionated about music and would've been chomping at the bit, but now I'm of the opinion that in the end its just music!
To quote Bob Dylan, 'I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now.'

Indeed!! And of course that's just how it should be.

Never seen that Dylan quote before, like that!

Links to downloads of both of those shows have been posted on previous pages on this thread, if you're interested.

Electronic music is my bag, everything from Louis & Bebe Barron to SAW. I love the sound of machines making music. Just never got The Beatles or The Stones or Bob Dylan for that matter

Love The King. Inherited that from my mum.

Big fan of Sinatra too, particularly his Nelson Riddle collaborations just in case anyone thinks I eschew the massively popular for the sake of it!

OFGS we've missed out on some great songs and performances thanks to Yewtree and Mike Smith.

Wham and Hall and Oats.

And Annie I'm not Your Daddy performance with the backing singers giving Marie Wilson's backing singer a run for their money.

BIB - "i before e, except after c" is what I was taught at school.

Perhaps I was the other one.

If Donald Trump allowed his plastic surgeon to perform operations in a wind tunnel he would probably emerge from it looking something like this.

AFAIK it's only speculation at the moment but if Mike Smith's inaugural 4th November 1982 edition is inexplicably skipped then I'd say it's looking pretty ominous and knowing the BBC it's probably safe to assume the worst.

Just What I Always Wanted sounds better each time I hear it. It turns out the producer is none other than Tony Mansfield of New Musik fame.

I much preferred her single before this, 'Baby It's True', which missed the top 40. 'Wanted' is a bit too obvious for me
