Cry Baby Cry has a decent production, though it's as much about the energy. But I still think that many will find the chorus flat, not characterful enough in the melody or not catchy enough. That's likely why though in the charts it's not remembered much.

Ultravox came up a few pages ago. Love's Great Adventure I definitely liked at the time, and it is still pleasant to me though not as good as I used to think I expect. The break in the middle is nice and it has a good video. But one that passed me by relatively at the time was their 84 classic, Dancing With Tears in My Eyes. That one shows they were far from finished as a group.

As for Mike Smith I know he is dead, so it is Sarah Greene blocking his repeats?”

Yes, Smith's episodes are not being shown.

Basically, Smith refused to sign an agreement when he was alive permitting the BBC to repeat anything he presented and Greene is refusing to defy her late husband's wishes by reversing that decision.

Nobody quite knows the reasons why Smith refused to sign but the last 30 pages in this thread have largely been made up of speculation to that effect.

Neither do I. Both this and the opening track are example of utterly forgettable, dull dance music (and there is some great dance music. I'm just puzzled who was buying these.))

Blimey. well done anyway. At least you didn't have to dust off ye olde Olivetti.

Such a shame (and shame on the BBC) that this cannot be broadcast because of the wishes of a non entity of a presenter who no-one was interested in. Having watched this, he had the personality of a slug so I can see why he didn't want these episodes re-shown.”

It is possible to disagree with someone without being unpleasant and abusive you know.

My mum had a Remington typewriter ( electric) around 1984, but I learned on an o!d manual typewriter at school. It was massive and weighed a ton. Also very noisy in a room with 15 of them being used at the same time!

Apology for going off topic.

The hilarity of Legs & Co doing 'Bankrobber' came well after they'd dug their heels in.

During this time, they had several videos made - all directed by Don Letts”

In which they mimed, presumably.

Anyway, no more puns from me or I'll be torn to ribbons.

Heartbreaker I think is a nice song, I like the part leading to the chorus. The chorus, if judging it by really high standards, doesn't match the fluidity of All the Love In the World, it's more stiff.

Also what's so bad about Tie A Yellow Ribbon round the Old Oak Tree? Not fashionable, too old fashioned for people? I don't care, it's a nice recording of a decent song, I don't think it's any surprise that it's one of the most famous songs of the early 70s.

I would agree it ought to be included in a representative 70s collection and it's maybe not quite as bad as this...

You've also done me a favour here - I didn't realise it was 'ole' oak tree, I always thought it was 'old' oak tree!

(At least that's what Youtube has, don't shoot the messenger!)

I think it is a fine song too, and also comfort for those US Vietnam veterans who were returning from the war, where the song became synonymous. Not that that was especially the original intention of the song, mind.

I voted for Mothers Talk as my favourite Tears For Fears single. Woman In Chains would have been number two.

Re. Blue Zoo, I love the video for Cry Boy Cry. It seems to start off in some sort of fun house with a maze made out of some kind of silver material. Has anyone else watched it? One of the other band members apart from Andy O reminds me of a young John Major with the big glasses, and the other one with the hat looks a bit like Bobby G from Bucks Fizz.

Save Your Kisses For Me has a sweet and catchy chorus, but I don't like the verse so much. I would definitely put Anne-Karine Strøm and Braulio ahead of it in that Eurovision.

And with Tears for Fears I just assume that it's obvious that Everybody Want to Rule the World is their most popular, and a poll isn't needed. Obviously it won't be everyone's favourite as they did different kinds of songs, but for fame and popularity is there really any question?

This is why we should never make assumptions.

Yes - great song!

I too am puzzled why they didn't have more chart success! Andy was a great frontman & I always thought their music was similar to something Duran Duran would release.

Their singer contacted me via YouTube once saying that they were still doing some live shows - but this was a few years back!

Maybe very slightly unpleasant, certainly not abusive, don't exaggerate.

The point is, people are interested in the music, not the host, and certainly not one with little personality and a touch of arrogance.

You maybe missed out there - maybe they had a spare place in the group.

Ha - that would be good! Although I wouldn't make as good a front person as Andy. No I think he was just advertising some one off gigs!

'Tie a Yellow Ribbon' must be one of my earliest ever memories of a chart hit. I remember only being about 3 when it was out & sitting listening to it on the radio, whilst playing with my toys in the living room. - Nice song!

By the way - as it happens - dare I say one of my first memories of TOTP was of Gary Glitter & Jimmy Savile at about the same time!! They obviously didn't put me off the show though!

Not to worry, For some reason I had you down for a backing singer!

The last two episodes of 1982 which is the 9th and 23rd December will now be shown as a double bill from 11pm on New Year's Day rather than 7pm to 8pm on the 30th December as advertised on the Christmas Radio Times.
