A wonderful track from the equally wonderful Kraftwerk. Amazing it's from '78. A good bit ahead of it's time.

Hard to believe seeing this episode that we've got weeks of Tight Fit and Goombay Dance Band at number 1 coming soon.

They changed the chart cut off point from Saturday to Friday for the first couple of months of 1982. So a TOTP's appearance would affect the next week's chart. Hence -20-18-3
Lot's of other songs had similar odd chart runs at the time. Madness 'Cardiac Arrest' did a -26-28-14 for instance. |

I can understand how the sound of this song really struck a chord with people in the depths of a British winter.

I used to play The Model a lot as a kid, on glow in the dark vinyl no less. It was a b-side with Trans-Europe Express on a 12" of Neon Lights, hense the luminous vinyl. My dad picked it up in 1977 and now it's mine.

Peel's not getting out of that crowd round him, no matter how much he wants to.
Wow, that was a quick fade out. |

So Shaky was no 1 immediately before Wales kicked off and beat Belgium.
Good omen for Germany tonight. |

Very good edition The Jets and Zoo aside. The inclusion of AC/DC and Gillan later will push that to a 8.8/10 from me. That was a good 'un.
Right, Germany vs France time! |

. Good to see John Peel - think he has to be one of the best presenters yet & I'm proud to say we share the same birthday!!!!! - But why did they wait 14 years to bring him back? ![]() Theatre of Hate - Good OMD - Good Soft Cell - Good XTC - Great & Kraftwerk - Wunderbar!! 8/10!!

Excellent edition tonight.
Question: When did Top of the Pops start to broadcast in stereo? I never really heard it in stereo until I got a stereo TV in the late 90s, I believe it was called Nicam Stereo in the mid 80s when it first appeared. |

A great episode. OMD, XTC, Theatre of Hate and Kraftwerk all good, and great presentation from Peel. But the obvious stand out was Soft Cell, brilliant song and excellent video. 8/10 for me. Can't wait for tomorrow, off to watch the football now.

never understood the love for Theatre of Hate/Spear of Destiny. I used to go to a goth indie club in the 80s and everyone raved about them

Anyone else think the Jets singer looked like Shakin Stevens?
