The 80s when men could wear knee high boots outside trousers.

New Order's performance of Blue Monday in March 1983 was the perfect example of why live performances on TOTP in the 1980s weren't a good idea. It was often impossible at that time to reproduce songs that bands had spent weeks or months putting together in the studio in a live performance without them sounding awful.

What a depressing thought that we're gonna have to suffer that again multiple times.

H100, this is more like it though.

Is that guitar bigger than normal or is Nick Hayward just really really small?

Yes I know what you mean, I am often disappointed how live songs sound less vibrant than the record version.

Especially when we lost 6 Human League performances with 3 singles in 1981 and they went and showed the Christmas performance of 'Don't You Want Me' on the Big Hits show.

Golden Brown was record of the week on Radio 2. I guess they didn't suspect it was about heroin.

Clunky edit there.

I was half fearing we were going to get a totally naff and unwanted Mark Radcliffe voice over on this programme. What a relief and utter pleasure that they've spared us that!

ABC - The era of Perfect Pop was well and truly upon us.

A track like Mirror Mirror, or Videotheque, by Dollar would have been difficult to play live since producer Trevor Horn used to spend months on end getting it to sound right using the latest computer technology such as the Fairlight.

The night 50 audience members were blinded after Martin's arm caught one of the side laser lights.

Yes I'm glad I grew up in this era, although still a year or two before I really started to appreciate music.

Don't much care for ABC but the next 6 songs will be compulsive viewing!

There will be some Big Hits that are affected by Yewtree that we won't see. As 'Lion Sleeps Tonight' will feature 5 times, it might have been better to have left that one out.

Interesting to see the BBC having no qualms about showing 15 year old Annabella Lwin girating around the stage.

They've set fire to the studio!

Luckily that bloke from London's Burning is dancing in the corner. He'll sort it out.

Not keen on Bow Wow Wow, but nice to hear on a compilation album.
