They've remembered to switch the tape machine on this time!

And he pronounced it correctly!

Always love hearing 'See You'. They just got better and better after Vince left for me. A slight blip with their next one though. 'The Meaning of Love'.

He doesn't look like a man who would come to sprinkle heroin on his cornflakes does he?

You'd never imagine Dave Gahan would be hopeless junkie a few years on from this would you?

I adore this Depeche Mode single. It stirs some weird emotion in me from the period. Very melancholic.

Maybe I'm being slow but I don't see how the two statements are connected.”

Classic Bates presenting style — causing a sense of confusion with two statements that have nothing to do with each other.

You just know that Martin Gore's tie was probably still warm from being tied around his nadgers ten minutes prior to this performance!

I didn't mind that one. Some of the lyrics are distinctly naff though.

Somehow he managed to make himself look younger than he had in 1981.

I'm not blaming PWL. It's clearly something the 'Rmas wanted to do, but their attempts to reinvent themselves as a camp disco act just rang so false with me. It was like when Lulu sang with Take That and mistakenly thought she was some kind of legendary diva.

I once heard a great description of Dave Gahan from this period as looking like a Saturday boy who was working in a Dolcis shoe shop.

This used to be played endlessly during the mid/late 80s in the Canary Islands. You heard it wherever you went.

'The Meaning of Love' always felt to me like a parting gift from Vince that they'd forgotten about.
