I always shout my thanks across to anyone who has been considerate enough to put their dog on lead and I know lots of the regular walkers and we know each others dogs and understand their limits so we all coexist happily as mine are far from the only ones with issues. We often chat to people in places that we don't go regularly as people always want to know how come Gracie only has 3 legs and one eye and comment on how amazing she is if they've seen her running round or smile if she is in her huge doggy pushchair. I'm not some antisocial dog walker but I still hate dogs running at us 😂 Because I have a pack they can play together.

Indeed I was out with the boy and my kids down the river the other day he was running with my nans two other but coming back to check in and get a treat so didn't go any distance had my two kids with me. This weimaraner (reckon it was a cross as it was bloody huge) came flying up to my dog but was clearly a foodie and started trying to eat my pockets (I'm seldom bothered by any dog working with and assessing large breed rescue for years but this one made even me nervous, I was just glad my kids were back a bit with me nan). The owner tried calling it, walking away from it etc, in the end it had to be put on a lead as it would not leave. I wasn't going to throw the treats on the floor and create a problem with the dogs (as the one I am working with is extremely food orientated due to not being fed properly for 6 months of its life (I may have considered this avenue had it just been me and the dog near).

Well had a lovely walk today, spoiled again, we are wandering along both dogs on leads chatting and showing our Elsie lab who has very bad eyesight some ducks, she was loving it and Betty chi was having a bit of a paddle in the shallow part of the stream when out of the undergrowth flew a staffie, I managed to get Betty above my head and my husband virtually threw himself on you of Elsie to try and protect her. Result hospital visit as bite to my leg wouldn't stop bleeding and my husband had to leave me there while he took Elsie to the vet for stitches to her rump.

My great neice who was with us has gone to bed very upset she is only 9 and was really upset by this.

I refuse to believe my dogs were to blame in any way.

Woman walking the staffie tells me he never did that before and is used to children etc I simply no longer believe anyone when they say that!

Yes, It must be horrible to see an attack like that when you are only 9 years old.

Thanks all everyone is a little subdued today, both dogs have been out but rather more cautious than they usually are, not far as my leg hurts too much to go too far today.

Just found out about another fatal attack within the past few days and it's another pit.

Here is that story. Take note lyndeeloo. Not a picture of a bull breed!

This is the dog responsible.

SIL's greyhound was attacked by a JRT. It jumped up underneath him and tore a huge chunk out of his side. Nasty little buggers.

A few years ago, Mr. Tenna and I were walking by the riverbank near the building we used to live in.

There were two young boys also out for a walk, and they were accompanied by a golden retriever.

The retriever ran over to us, circled us, growled and bared his teeth. He was warning us not to approach the boys, who were in his charge.

After he issued his warning, he bolted off and returned to the boys. That was it.

Had we tried to have gone anywhere near those two boys, I am positive the dog would have chomped.

I used to have jrs no argument from me that is part of the problem many of us have breeds or have had breeds we consider snappy or down right nasty at times but staffie owners generally seem unable to admit how dangerous their dogs can be we see time and again the nanny dog argument, well I wouldn't want that dog that hot us anywhere near kids it was out of control and determined to hurt.

I think that's an excellent point. I've got greyhounds so I know their difficult points and much as I love the breed I am realistic about them. A lot of staffy/bull breed owners aren't.

I replied to your post about your dog being attacked but lost it when my laptop had a funny turn! Hope you are all feeling a bit better, terrible experience. Is your dog is healing ok? How's your great- niece doing? It does knock your confidence for a while too.

We are getting there slowly yes confidence bruised both in the dogs and humans, my neice had a bad night dreaming but the school have offered someone for her to talk to if she needs an outside source of comfort. Elsie is looking sorry for herself the bite was more of a rip so it was harder to close with stitches, but the wound is looking clean and seems to be healing. I am back to GP this afternoon as mine doesn't look quite so nice, bit puffy and pus. The hospital said it might as there was a lot of muck in the wound time we got there, river water not good either.

That isn't good Molliepops, hope it doesn't go nasty, dog bites alone are bad enough for infection without river water too. So much pain, upset and cost just because a dog isn't under control.

A friend of mine's greyhound was attacked today by a neighbours JRT who got out and went for it as they walked up the road. Her leg and shoulder are a real mess, apparently it bit, ran off and kept coming back in and biting more. Her dog just stood there, which I've heard other people say their greyhounds have done when attacked. Fortunately the owner is paying the vet bills and was apologetic, she said it took 3 of them to get the JRT off her dog. It's awful isn't it all these attacks and people and other dogs.

So quick to jump on staffies eh?

Why do dog homes have them in their top 3 pets for children?

Awful poor dog, terriers do that from my experience and of course staffies are just big terriers but you'd never think that from some owners.

No idea if I saw as many attacks by any breed it would not be in my top 1000 to have with kids.

Staffs, whilst generally excellent with humans are prone to dog aggression-particularly the males.

I said the exact same thing earlier, unfortunately some people don't see the difference between dog aggression and human aggression

True I saw the bite I got as partly my fault I got in the way of it attacking mine, I still wouldn't want it around kids if it can accidentally for damage to me a child would come off worse.

They are indeed more prone to dog aggression but they are still aggressive towards humans because I have seen it too.
