With a new producer taking over the reigns at Emmerdale this week out of all the 18 producers of Emmerdale from David Goddard all the way to Kate Oates who in your opinion has been the best producer?

Here is all the producers in case you don't know them all:

David Goddard Episode 1 (16th October 1972) Episode 26 (16th January 1973) 26
Peter Holmans (as 'Executive Producer') Episode 27 (22nd January 1973) Episode 78 (17th July 1973) 51
Robert D. Cardona Episode 79 (23rd July 1973) Episode 322 (18th May 1976) 244
Michael Glynn Episode 323 (3rd January 1977) Episode 545 (15th January 1980) 223
Anne W. Gibbons Episode 546 (17th January 1980) Episode 818 (29th September 1983) 273
Richard Handford Episode 819 (4th October 1983) Episode 1079 (28th August 1986) 261
Michael Russell Episode 1080 (2nd September 1986) Episode 1234 (24th March 1988) 155
Stuart Doughty Episode 1235 (30th March 1988) Episode 1620 (24th December 1991) 386
Morag Bain Episode 1621 (31st December 1991) Episode 1824 (9th December 1993) 204
Nicholas Prosser Episode 1825 (14th December 1993) Episode 1924 (24th November 1994) 101
Mervyn Watson Episode 1925 (29th November 1994) Episode 2399 (6th August 1998) 471
Kieran Roberts Episode 2400 (11th August 1998) Episode 2894 (13th April 2001) 491
Steve Frost Episode 2895 (16th April 2001) Episode 3985 (25th February 2005) 1057
Kathleen Beedles Episode 3986 (28th February 2005) Episode 4926 (29th February 2008) 900
Anita Turner Episode 4927 (3rd March 2008) Episode 5244 (13th March 2009) 270
Gavin Blyth Episode 5245 (16th March 2009) Episode 5890 (8th April 2011) 611
Stuart Blackburn Episode 5891 (11th April 2011) Episode 6518/6519 (4th April 2013) 609
Kate Oates Episode 6518/6519 (4th April 2013) Episode 7503 (16th May 2016) 923

The number after each producer signifies the number of episodes they produced!

My favourite would have to be Steve Frost!

I've only watched Emmerdale on off from around 2003 /2004 ish, and regularly from 2014, but I knew what was going on most of the time.
Kate Oates for me, but I also enjoyed the Gavin Blyth era because he brought back the "farming" feel to Emmerdale and was responsible for the arrival of the Barton Family.

I don’t care about producers, I watch soaps purely for entertainment; I might like one episode and dislike the following one.

Totally right. The obsession with producers and era's on here leaves me cold. Having said that it's not usually about Emmerdale so this is not regurgitation.

Don't remember them all, to be fair. I do know Kathleen Beedles' work was very good though. The Kings and Sadie/Cain were brilliant.

I actually have only watched Emmerdale under 3 producers.
Gavin Blyth
Stuart Blackburn
Kate Oates

Gavin Blyth had the best time so far, it was his work that got me watching in the first place. Him and Amanda Donohoe, anyway.
Stuart had his moments but all the drawn out stories and Debbie gangster stuff was absolute nonsense.
Kate Oates has been better, the temp of stories has been faster and she had a really strong start which continued after Cameron and up until Aaron's return where everything's gone rather silly.

The best era of Emmerdale for me was 2004-2006 with the original Kings, Sadie & Cain, the show home explosion, Zoe blowing up Home Farm etc, so whoever was in charge during those years. I would also put Kate Oates from her first two years as it was just as unmissable as the 04-06 times, then she bought Aaron back and the whole show plummeted faster than Charity's knickers at a millionaire's convention. The past year has not felt like the work of the same person of the two years before.

BIB:

It really does not feel like the same work since Aaron returned, it's so drastic it's like the producer changeover happened back then. Could it be the higher ups taking more control? Was the McCains' advertising changeover around that time?

Same, I'd say 2004 - 2006/2007 was easily the best era with Jack, Robert and Andy Sugden, the King family and later on the Sinclairs. Steve Frost and Kathleen Beedles were the best producers in my opinion, Kate Oates has been great too.

Kates Oates for me - she was responsible for stories like Robron and Gordon's trial, Val's HIV, helicopter crash, Ashley's dementia which I enjoyed. Many good introductions to the cast with the Whites, and returning characters like Aaron, Gordon, Donna, Leyla.

I hope her good work can be continued under Iain McLeod - the new producer. Corrie have found a fantastic producer

Completely agree, although not a fan of Robron and the helicopter crash was a bit meh imo. I would add Laurel's alcoholism and the current White family drama surrounding Lawrence, Ronnie & Chrissie to her best storylines too. Although many of the storylines have been great. I think the few months of this year have been slightly weaker, but I think it's starting to pick up again now.

The King era really was just brilliant. I'd watched ED a bit before then, but only on and off. That was the first time I was completely hooked. Good times.

Wonderful wasn't it. I don't think the show will ever be as good as it was back then sadly. Anita Turner ruined the show when she came along in 2008.

It's funny, but back then, I took zero interest in who was running the show - I only cared about what was on screen. But all I knew was, I was absolutely hooked - and then everything changed and I really really wasn't, and stopped watching pretty quickly. Now I know it was almost certainly because something changed behind the scenes. It's amazing really how much difference it can make, when the cast is roughly the same.

Although I've only watched during Kate Oates era I feel like I've watched enough old stuff on youtube to comment on this and I agree with you. Under Beedle's era they had the Kings, the Andy/Robert feud, Kings River Explosion, I bet watching the show ever day back then was really exciting. I'd also probably put Gavin Blythe ahead of Kate Oates because he gave us Aaron's coming out story and the Bartons.
