Breakaway vs normal (buckle) cat collars

We've had our cat for just 2 weeks and have tried to put a collar on her twice but both times she has pulled it apart as it's the breakaway style. Are the buckle types available for cats? Ive been to a few stores and haven't seen any.

I get that it's a safety thing in case they get caught or hung up on something, but I don't see the point in putting a collar on that won't stay on. Do I just need to be persistent and keep trying it on her and hope she gives up trying to get it off?

My kitten has lost four FOUR collars and all of them those safety ones. Best bet is to try a larger pet store or go online
First page on Amazon for cat collars has this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Reflective-...rds=cat+collar

Thanks for that.

I did notice that dog collars are different. I wonder if a small dog collar would be the easiest thing. Surely a collar small enough for a breed like a yorkie would be suitable for a cat.

Im pretty sure you would need one with elastic at the very least, as cats are very well known for getting caught up in trees and you can imaging the consequence of a collar that does not stretch or break.

Also do not have it too loose as they can get a leg trapped in it.. this happened to my son's cat who went missing at the same time as she got her front leg caught right into the collar.. the damage was horrible as she was like it a few months after running in panic into the woods.

Did the cat in the woods survive?
