Five vs Blue
As Five split up in 2001, Blue were releasing their debut single All Rise. But who do you think are the better boyband? This may be an unpopular opinion but I would say Five. While Blue were better singers, Five were more unique as a boyband and had better pop songs. Blue tried too hard to be like Westlife at times but just weren't quite as good. Five had their own unique style in my opinion

Hmmm I'm Conflicted on this one!
I think they were each of their era but I think 5ive were more original. When Blue came out they struck me as a follow up to "Another Level". Both have decent pop songs. |

In the UK Blue sold more albums and Five sold more singles and both overall quite similar in sales.
Both were interesting alternatives to the biggest boyband of the time Westlife with Blue and Boyzone with Five. I'd say Five as they were the only Brit boyband alongside Take That in 90's to go top ten in America which really counts for something and also they were unique. Possibly their songs hold up more now and they fused a lot of music genres into each song although as noted Blue were far better singers. It would have been interesting as in late 2001 Blue had two no1 singles and Five also finished on a no1 that year. Had both continued at same time into 2002 I would expect Five would have been the lesser band between them and so called it right to stop when they did. winner: Five |

In the UK they were close both 3 no1 singles though blue had 3 no1 albums to 5ives 1 no1. Overall similar sales in Britain when levelled out album plus singles.
In Europe, Asia and Japan Blue were definitely the bigger band and also had that amazing bit in Love Actually! That means they will live forever even though they are the butt of the joke! However Five were a lot more popular than Blue in America (Blue non existent) and North America, South America and Australia/New Zealand. So both had their areas of popularity overseas. |

I'm going to go for Blue because I loved all of their singles the first time around but I also like a lot of Five's stuff too. Sadly something very strange happened to Lee Ryan's voice and I can't stand to listen to them perform now.

Five and Blue each suited their era so it's hard for me to pick one. Personally Keep On Movin' is still one of my favourite boyband songs of all time so I'm slightly in the Five camp. |

Interestingly enough, Blue's Too Close knocked Five Let's Dance off number 1 in September 2001!

Lol Blue were nothing like Westlife and they had no ambition to be. Westlife sang insipid love songs whilst stood still or in their early days sat on a stool and stood up for the key change. Blue were more rnb and had dance routines and moved around more.
Five and Blue each suited their era so it's hard for me to pick one. Personally Keep On Movin' is still one of my favourite boyband songs of all time so I'm slightly in the Five camp. |

I'm not sure about mature but both Five/Blue, the Wanted, Busted and East 17 were what people called 'lad boy bands' meaning they were the type of boyband boys of a certain age could like also without getting stick for it.
The same couldn't be said for Westlife, Boyzone or Take That (although they did have a lot of young boy fans also in 90's). This is just what I remember growing up with these bands at their peaks (TT being exception). Off topic do boys like One Direction or are they mainly a girl fan demographic? |

Wow I remember Too Close so well (it's a cover tho isn't it?) but I can't think of let's dance at all :O
OT - I think both Five and Blue were the sort of boybands that not only boys but also parents found it ok to like |

1D are mainly girls under 16 demographic. What would you consider the age of acceptance for boys that like the lad boy bands you mentioned out of interest?
Well Five/Blue I was 9-12 possibly? Primary school age and LOADS of boys liked Five older and same age. I went on some sport camps around the country and again this age group didn't mind Five at all. To a certain extent Blue were 'too cool for school' although in my teenage years they were mocked in favour of Linkin Park/Limp Bizkit. That said stand them next to Westlife and it's not hard to look cool or interesting. The Wanted males the same age as them seemed to like some of their clubby tracks. Is hard to tell age ranges though this is just from personal experience and observations. Possibly not all boys/young males universally nationwide, speaking just from what I remember though mainly a female audience. |
