There appears to be houses in emmerdale we never see the inside of anymore.

Pearls, for example (before she moved in with paddy and Rhona) hadn't been seen for years. Betty's/Victoria's also appears to have gone the same way

I'm pretty sure the sets are still there, they just don't use them unless they have a storyline, Paddy & Rhona's house for example wasn't seen for ages, but during the adoption thing and Paddy's affair etc, we were seeing it all the time. I recall Victoria and Adam's being shown a few months ago (Maybe longer) because I recall people saying about how they hadn't changed the decorations or something since Betty lived there.

we saw quite a lot of victorias house in the run up to vanessa having the baby and after she had it. also saw scenes with robert and andy, andy and aaron in victorias over katies death.

the inside of the sharmas, sam and megans, ednas and i think its called brook cottage (where diane and doug have moved to) havent been seen for ages nor has pollards since he started coming out of his grief.

bob has also gone missing along with the twins, house and rodders

I know people throw around things like "the writer's have forgotten" when they probably haven't, just pushed it aside for a bit, but I genuinely think that they have forgotten Bob's twins!

The last time I remember seeing the Sharma's is when Jai had a scene crying I think? can't remember what it was about, and Pyria and Rakesh were conforming him. Also, after Pyria and Rakesh's (failed) wedding, they showed the kitchen, since then I don't think it has been shown at all, I wonder why they don't show them for so long?

Thinking about it, Emmerdale doesn't show many houses. It's nearly always outside, the Woolpack, David's shop or Home Farm.

I'm waiting to see the inside of the old Kings house now Rakesh lives there, and the new flats hes supposedly built.

How many houses are actually in the village there seems to be no way near enough to subside the businesses that are based there, the pub may survive based on people from outside the area coming for meals and the B and B has half a chance.

The cafe and shop wouldn't stand a chance as Emmerdale wouldn't get much visiting trade because although it's a pretty village it's too small to be the type of place tourist would visit as there is no real places of intrest,. walkers wouldn't really pass through as most of the surrounding land is farmers fields.

The salon I refuse to acknowledge as it was never remotely a viable business nobody drives to a remote village to get their nails or hair done in a cottage by untrained staff, they only have enough room for one customer at a time and in a villages this small they couldn't exactly rely on the locals to keep them afloat. Emmerdale set doesn't have many buildings this was a waste of one.

Well they do have the best scenery of all the soaps, so should make the most of it

if you had been you would understand and see that emmerdale is actually reflective of village life.

as for the salon, farmers wifes like a bit of pampering too but I think they should of done a spa retreat or something at home farm that would be more realistic

Daves shop would do very well who wants to trek 20 miles to the nearest supermarket everytime they run out of milk! they go to the nearest village shop.

any amenities the villages can offer are usually taken up if it saves time having to trek miles and miles.

the only thing thats probably misplaced is the factory being a sweet factory. I know of a few factories in the dales that make food tho. just small operations like the sharmas and I know of bigger ones.

oh and the dales attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors a year, just because there are lots of farms doesn't mean there are no public rights of way and the area gets a lot of walkers etc that would use the cafe and the pub and people as you said would use the bnb as a base to doing walking in the area.

a you see from the oustside scenes the dales are very pretty and emmerdale doesn't really mention them but there are lots of attractions, places of interest to visit that are not so far away.

I'm aware that that people in the village would rather go to the local shop than travel to a supermarket for their groceries but my point was there wouldn't be enough of them to keep the business afloat. Unless pints of mile are upwards of £5 in the Yorkshire dales.

The same principal goes for the salon although farmers wives my like the odd pampering session there wouldn't be enough people in the area to sustain it especially when your premises only has room for one customer per time at a push two, and that's not an exaggeration.

I don't get the impression the village is on route tohrough any leisurely walks. It will be very much nearby and I'm aware of the beauty of the Yorkshire dales but Emmerdale doesn't seem like a walkers retreat the surrounding area doesn't seem to have many rivers,lakes and just a lot of flat farmland.

If it's a case of there is a lot of this in the surrounding area and it's just now shown clearly. then they should show it, watching how some of these businesses sustain and having a charcther a home farm or somewhere exploit the tourist attraction would be more intresting than showing multiple affair storylines. It would allow Emmerdale to take advantage of its unique and beautiful setting.

And also if this is he case Surley them cottages are worth an absolute fortune how do the resident afford the mortgages on them when most of them are on low,income salary jobs.

Yes,everything you say is true. Emmerdale is just so unrealistic in every possible way as a village. At least,The Archers makes concessions to some of the challenges of life in a rural area in the 21st century.

I would like Hot Tony to move into whatever Emmerdale property is available.

There' s a farm near me with a chocolate factory on it that said it ain' t Cadbury, it makes high end chocolates. I would have my doubts about the shop as ED is close to other ( bigger?) Villages as well as Hotten, I' m not sure it would have a big enough catchment area - maybe if it was 50 miles from town. That said being a deli in a lovely village it might be popular with outsiders especially if it added an extra attraction, such as a small gallery.

I take it you know the Dales well, or live there? I' m just judging from what I see in my own locality. I would be interested to compare it to my nearest national park - Loch Lomond and the Trossachs - which I'll admit I don' t know well. I do think being in or near to the Park would automatically boost the visitor numbers, and I agree plenty of people would like a gentler walk or even just a potter around the village.

Do you think Bernice' s business would be more believable if she visited people at home?

I think that anything or anywhere from before the mid 1990s has long since been erased from the history of the programme.

It's be more believable if they employed a experienced stylist instead of Bernice just picking up the knack of all these treatment that many spend years learning ( same goes for most soaps jobs I guess )

There doesn't really seem to be anywhere to walk in the Emmerdale village though,it's tiny. What requirement are there to be considered a village as Emmerdale is more of a street
