And also if this is he case Surley them cottages are worth an absolute fortune how do the resident afford the mortgages on them when most of them are on low, income salary jobs.”

There is mainly flat farmland surrounding the actual village set but we're meant to believe that it is set in a mountainous part of the Dales because the titles have had this aspect CGI'd into it.

Interestingly, there is an actual public footpath that runs through the set, near to Sharma's and Wishing Well Cottage. When I went on the Emmerdale tour the guide mentioned how security have to keep ramblers from walking down the lane towards the main village.

As for the expensive cottages bit, I'm sure that we must suspend reality for that one. After all, if people on a similar income living in Walford can afford London prices then I'm sure they can live comfortably in Yorkshire.

Wasn't there an explosion(went up in the infamous plane crash?)?”

The plane crash in the early 90s wiped out Demdyke Row.
I think it's roughly situated where Marlon's house - Tall Trees Cottage, is now - outside of the village, across the ford and close to the cricket pavilion.

If you compare the old map from when it was beckindale? Village to the new one half the houses in the village have disappeared and the stream has completely changed position.

There used to be another pub on the other side the village that Seth was always threatening to go to Instead of the wool pack but it seems to have relocated to hotten.

It would be an interesting and realistic storyline if someone purchased the land where houses used to be and started building some new ones. It's actually quite weird no one has ever done that and you kinda wonder who owns that land?

The purpose built village set really looks nothing like the village of Esholt, the real life village where the exteriors were filmed between 1976-97. There seemed to be quite a lot more houses in the real life village.

I think the houses disappeared because Emmerdale changed the location they filmed at rather than just for making them disappear.

there were some houses built a few yrs ago, but they didnt last long bobs daughter dawn died in the explosion.

because they do the outside filming in a real location I guess the village would need real houses building to be authentic or it would limit where they could film

That said being a deli in a lovely village it might be popular with outsiders especially if it added an extra attraction, such as a small gallery.

I take it you know the Dales well, or live there? I' m just judging from what I see in my own locality. I would be interested to compare it to my nearest national park - Loch Lomond and the Trossachs - which I'll admit I don' t know well. I do think being in or near to the Park would automatically boost the visitor numbers, and I agree plenty of people would like a gentler walk or even just a potter around the village.

Do you think Bernice' s business would be more believable if she visited people at home?”

I do know the dales, it is where my family is from and I grew up spending a lot of time there. I lived just on the edge. I now live on a different edge of it

re Bernice yes definitely she would get more trade that way, I think if they had made it more of a spa it would do well, that being said visitors to the bnb may very well visit for a pamper

(Slightly off topic, but still kind of on) I think she should see some more scenes of people in their houses of an evening, watching tele, having a cuppa etc, just scenes that aren't to move a plot forward, just "filler" scenes.

There doesn't really seem to be anywhere to walk in the Emmerdale village though,it's tiny. What requirement are there to be considered a village as Emmerdale is more of a street”

Bernice wasn’t in it for a few years so she might have done some training during that time. Just because we don’t see something happening doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened.

I'm behind on episodes, just watched Monday's where we saw inside Megan & Sam's house, that hasn't been shown for a while has it?
