Vhs to DVD transfer

Need to transfer about 20 videos to DVD for my uncle.
What is the most economical way to do this? Buy old vhs player and hook up to our DVD recorder.?
Or is there an all in one machine that can do this for reasonable cost?

If this page is anything to go by it doesn't look as if they are made anymore so if you have a DVD recorder you might as well use it. VHS machines are not easy to find these days, even at Cash Converters as nobody wants them. As he hasn't shown any interest in the tapes for years why not get him an old machine he can use if he wants to as I am willing to bet he will never look at the discs you make for him anyway. I spent ages doing LPs and cassettes for someone years ago but they said they haven't had time (10 years) to play them.

I am looking to sell a VHS player and a DVD recorder as it goes. If you're interested, send me a message. Thanks.

How do you know he hasn't? How do you know he hasn't had a VCR of his own until last week when the thing packed in, and now the uncle is fretting because he no longer has the means of watching these tapes?

Alternatively, how do you know that they aren't personal, and unique, VCR recordings? From his wedding, of his children when they were kids, or his parents' wedding? So again, even though he may not want to watch these recordings over and over again on a daily basis, he also doesn't want to lose them forever, or no longer have the means to watch them when he does want to.

Why are you assuming that what was true for you and a friend (and this is regarding tapes and records and CDs, hardly the same as videos which for the most part are home-made rather than commercial media) is also true for the OP and his uncle?

I have a jvc semi pro svhs deck which has a anti rolling 'thing'

I did try and capture using a random vhs deck but it had lots of jumping and was mosly in black and white - apparently the consumer decks do this

This was a lp tape captured with the jvc deck http://youtu.be/BWJq60i_9Cw

So inbox if you want me to digitise our tapes or have a look for a jvc SVHS deck
