Does anyone else agree? UKTV now have the rights for the late night repeat and the weekend Omnibus so why not 2 episodes a day from the start before The Bill repeat.

Maybe we should all tweet @UKTV or @LiveOnW or for people who don't have Twitter email. I'm in a few Eastenders Facebook groups who have suggested starting a petition.

I think that would be nice, i remember years ago i used to have a few special edition videos with select episodes on them, i can't even remember which ones now. It's a shame they don't release dvds really of the memorable moments i'm sure a lot of people would buy them.

Tons of soaps in general deserve to be repeated.

As said previously, there should be a soap channel. Of british, american and australian soaps. Tons of old gems out there that deserve a new fanbase or re-watch.

Unfortunately old episodes of soaps don't seem to perform that well. Back in the 90s there were repeats of all the major UK soaps on satellite TV. All were eventually demoted to off peak slots- like early morning. And Sky's dedicated Soap Channel closed- although apart from Emmerdale Farm it didn't have the greatest roster of shows.

I was thinking the same earlier! If they were to show an episode every day, it would take over 13 years to get to the current episodes!

That would be awesome!

I would like BBC 4 to show some of the classic episodes like they did today. Great stuff.

It would be fantastic viewing to see the whole of EastEnders from the beginning watched it constantly since about 1994 but have missed the first 9 years apart from the odd episode here and there i would love to see the Den and Angie years as well as the early Mitchell Brothers era, having said all that if it takes 13 years i could well be dead by then

I don't understand why they stopped showing them when UKTV Gold changed to being exclusively comedy. Other than W, Drama channel would be a good place for repeats

Generally speaking BBC shows don't work well on commercial channels due to the advert breaks having to be shoehorned in, it tends to spoil the flow of the programmes.

No thanks . I shall not bother with W

so for the maths not sure what episode number we are on Wikipedia has 5288 (as of 20 May 2016) so round it up to 5,300, assuming 5 episodes a week, that is 1060 weeks.

52 weeks in a year, means it would take 21 years, assuming production stopped at 5,300.

There is a reason there are DVD boxsets of EastEnders put out at the end of each year.

From what I remember it wasn't any better or worse than it is now despite many rosy spectacled and blinded by nostalgia views of it people have, so no I wouldn't be that bothered about seeing it right from the beginning again.

you would have to be almost criminally insane to want to watch any soap all the way from episode 1 again.

Are you suggesting that the OP is?

If they did that people would soon realize that it was 95%+ mundane.....Pauline arguing about disposable nappies, Arthur and the wallpaper, Pete juggling his apples, Michelle and Sharon tittering over boys. There's a reason that only a handful of episodes are ever remembered.

maybe he has not realised the undertaking it would involve to repeat the entire series.

Like I said the fog of nostalgia often makes things seem better years ago than they are now.

I don't think they need to show every episode from the very start, however it would be nice if they did the 'themed weekends' like UK Gold used to do and show classic episodes from a particular era or family/character.

Also W is not available via all TV platforms like Freeview for instance.

If people would like to see the show from the very beginning I don't see what the harm is in suggesting it. I genuinely have no idea why people then have to make fun or be mean about anyone who would want to watch the show from the start.
