Do we know for sure Peggy is dead? It's not like we saw her die or viewed her dead body.

EastEnders 40th Anniversary Live Episode is going to be interesting...

A Steve Owen return would be epic

They are all utterly ridiculous but if they are happy to create some nonsensical story to bring back Kathy, I'd even accept the madness of "it was all a dream" to get Pat back. Realising all over again what a loss that character is to the show was much more emotional for me than Peggy's death.

I agree. We didn't see him die so it's possible . Perhaps grant could be owing him that money he demanded from Phil.

They haven't even brought back one 'dead' character in so much as anybody this applies to was only presumed to be dead and there was no hard evidence shown to support their deaths. Pat was a figment of Peggy's imagination on her cancer meds.

Having said that I wouldn't do any more of these stories now. I certainly can't see them bringing back anybody whose body was seen.

IMO enough was shown to support Peggy being dead. We saw Phil react to her body and she's going to have a funeral on-screen. It was pretty much the same for Cindy hence why bringing her back over Kathy wouldn't have worked even if she was more selfish than Kathy.

When you call it silly, it depends on the circumstances really.

Den's was ridiculous, because even though you didn't see his body drop into the canal, his death practically played out on screen. Den's return really shot the show in the foot in my opinion and ever since he returned, the show has been a mixture of good and bad.

Kathy's return wasn't so bad. Her death completely played out off screen and whilst it was out of character for Kathy to leave her Sons, it wasn't completely ridiculous like Den's and I did find it believable.

Nick's return was never really a 'Bringing back from the dead' storyline. From the moment the storyline started, it was hinted he as still alive.

Besides, I find decisions such as killing off Angie, Kathy, Pat, Cindy, Den, etc. In the first place much more bizarre than bringing them back from the dead

Tiffany and Cindy are the only dead Eastenders characters I would want back.

My money is on Callum Logan from Corrie having floated out of Gail's manhole, down Weatherfield canal and down to the Walford where he will emerge clutching the tons of guns etc Phil Mitchell chucked in over the years.

They should do Eastenders vs Zombies like Neighbours did.

We never saw Den die and they never recovered a body when the canal was dragged. It might have been Julia Smith's original intention for him to die but it was changed before the episode was broadcast and the door was left wide open. It wasn't until a year later when Grantham refused to return that a body was found in the very small canal after Sharon asked for it to be dragged again after she found a ring on a stall that Den never wore. That later storyline is the issue and is full of holes, not Den's 1989 exit. Den did not leave the show a dead man.

We never saw Kathy die either but the writers haven't been able to get over the hump of her letting Ian and Ben think she was dead. A character like Den was selfish enough to do that but Kathy wouldn't. It doesn't help that Kathy hardly interacts with her sons in any meaningful way and is pretty much a glorified extra most of the time. Den's return worked well until they ran out of stories for him and Grantham got suspended. Kathy's return has been a damp quib. Everything that's happened to those closest to her could have happened without her around.

Agree about Den.

As for Kathy the only 'in character' way of bringing her back would be she did it to protect her boys. I can't believe the return storyline and it does impact her position in show as her basic character as Kathy is shot to pieces.

Her return storyline is frankly appalling. It's as if little or no thought was put into it. People can say what they want about Den's comeback but at least the writers worked hard on getting as many ducks in a row as they could. It wasn't all perfect but it felt more believable than Kathy swanning back in and her sons virtually shrugging their shoulders at the whole thing. Ben's reaction was believable at the start but the lack of scenes with Kathy and his seemingly nonchalant attitude to her being back has done her no favours. Ian/Kathy has been a severe letdown. The reunion was nothing special and nothing between them since has justified the resurrection.

I do enjoy Kathy with Martin, Shirley and Sharon but that's probably because the faked death thing isn't all that relevant to those characters so there's no elephant in the room when they have scenes together like there is with Ian and Ben.
