I had a dream that my song in QF2 only got 4 points. I wouldn't be surprised if that really happened. oh well, that's what I get for sending in a song that I didn't really listen to.

QF3
Macedonia - Is this being filmed on a selfie stick or something? I'm here for the way it builds and that guitar solo.Sweden - Someone else that's found the wild mushrooms. Took a while for the high to come, but those rousing electronic choruses were worth the wait. Iran - I need Mahan's Middle Eastern beats back in Melfest. Not a stomper like Azizami, but a stirring anthem all the same. Armenia - It's a shame we don't get to see Sirusho being all earnest and looking fabulous with it. It's nice for what it is, but it's no Qele Qele or PreGomesh. Aland Islands - It feels like a 100yrs waiting for those drums to kick in and I feel like I've heard this a 100 times before. Greece - She's still plugging away. It's actually pretty decent considering most of her stuff just leaves me cold. Luxembourg - Standard fare you'd probably find on a FIFA soundtrack. Next. Austria - I am all about those urban beats. I needed that lift after a bit of a barren spell in the playlist. Scotland - I spy a fellow leftie! Sometimes you're just in the mood for a ballsy stomper. She has a great voice. Slovenia - Can't go wrong with a bit of Maraaya. Marjetka oozing class now she's ditched the headphones. Israel - Finally some gentle, pleasant sounding Hebrew that doesn't leave me wanting to gouge my own eardrums out. It's nice enough, but give me Denis Denis any day. ![]() Slovakia - The medieval chanting in the chorus works well and the video really brings out the vibe of the song. As good as it's going to get for Slovakia. Faroe Islands - I adore 5H, but it's a bit paint by numbers compared to the more urban direction they've been moving in. Poland - Whether it's trashy slut-pop or giving you the feels in some emosh ballad, Cleo is boss. <3 I'm not sure what Saruman's doing here and whatever Cleo is doing with that horse weirds me out. ![]() ![]() Denmark - I totally misread the name as something else. I want to like this, but it's all a bit hodge-podge.Australia - I do like these ethereal voices, but by the time it gets going I've already zoned out. Moldova - Coma inducing finish to the playlist. |

QF1 Review
Lebanon The verses are nice enough and I enjoyed his voice, the choruses dont quite fit with the verses however and the switch is a bit off-putting. The choruses are not totally poor, but the switch does let the song down slightly.
Ireland Im not massively keen on his voice at the start of the song, although its more listenable once the backing kicks in. The song is nice but at times it seems to be a bit in slo-mo and it never really grabbed me. Kosovo As far as songs of this genre go, this isnt that bad but its really no more than background music and I did find myself drifting off at times during the song. However, it is a tough music scene so just finding something that isnt awful is sometimes a win. Shetland Islands Have to be honest, I didnt have high hopes for this when the video started but it was a very pleasant surprise. I am rather enjoying the attitude of the song and it manages to capture the quirky female vibe in a rocky outer shell. Estonia This is something different for Estonia, the verses have something about them that appeal to me, but overall the song is lacking something, I think it may be down to the shortness of the song and a lack of a real chorus. Liechtenstein This is probably one of a few entries this contest that will probably be voted down by some on account of sending a big name. I wont be doing that and I rather liked the dramatic and dark vibe the song had running throughout it. Switzerland She has a very nice voice and the song is a very sweet one with a nice classic tune to it. I do worry it may get overshadowed by the more bigger numbers, but I hope this manages to stand out enough to do decently. Hungary I quite liked the verses where her voice was a bit quieter/deeper, but I found the chorus where her voice was a bit higher pitched a bit out of tune to my ears and the Reverse, Reverse the Rain was quite annoying if I am being honest. Azerbaijan Pleasant enough, but there is probably a reason this hasnt been entered despite being on Youtube since 2010. Her voice is nice here and I do like it, but I think it is probably lacking anything that is going to make it memorable. Belarus Now I dont hate Alexander like a lot of people seem to do and I quite liked this one too, although it did need to grow on me as the song went on. I think we have seen better stuff from him entered here, but this was still good. Belgium Despite this being a quite obvious quirky female type entry I actually quite liked this, its got a good beat and the chorus is pretty memorable and her voice didnt bother me too much either. Italy Another nice and classic ballad here, once again it may not have enough about it to fully stand out amongst the crowd but its an enjoyable couple of minutes and it was a song that I quite enjoyed listening to. Cyprus Never really been that big a fan of Eleftheria, it probably dates back to when her backing singer pretty much sand the whole of her Eurovision entry for her. This is all a bit standard Greek/Cypriot in style and never really went anywhere. Serbia I have to be honest and say a lot of these guys songs sound the same to me and Ive not really been keen on any of them as this is really no different. Not a whole lot happened in this song in my opinion and I found it a bit dull. Russia This is an interesting one, in essence it as all the ingredients of a song that I should really like and I do like it, but I am not totally in love with it. I think it might be because it tries to be too many things at the same time, if that makes any sense. Monaco This guy had an entry sent into one of the fantasy rounds that I hosted on the main thread last year. This one is a decent enough up-tempo entry, I like his voice in this but the dupstep type beat in the chorus is a bit off-putting for my ears Bosnia & Herzegovina You have to love these Balkan pop songs that always turn and inevitably get eliminated straight away. As always I do appreciate a Balkan pop song and this is nice a fun, without ever really being amazing. |

QF3 Review
FYR.MACEDONIA: I really like the guitar riffs! That's pretty much the only thing I like about this entry. SWEDEN: Okay song, a bit annoying voice. Sweden seems to be struggling in EF lately, not sure this will put them back on the top again. IRAN: Love Mahan. The song is generic and not as good as '' Azizami '' but still decent. ARMENIA: Big snoofest. ALAND ISLANDS: Love's Samu's vocals. Really good! GREECE: I want to like this but it's just not for me. LUXEMBOURG: Feels old, maybe because of the 480 pixels video. I would like it if it had a more melodical chorus, it's a little too noisy for my tasteAUSTRIA: Really enjoying this. I think this is heading to top 10 in the final. SCOTLAND: She usually scores well for Scotland. I enjoy the verses SLOVENIA: I really liked her Eurovision entry and '' Living again '' but I've started getting tired of her. This and her previous efforts sound and look too much alike to me. ISRAEL: Passed me by. And why so many feet shots? ![]() SLOVAKIA: The instrumentation is beautiful and the video is nice but the slovak language keeps it all down. Trying not to hear '' Hodor '' the whole time ![]() ![]() ![]() FAROE ISLANDS: Expected more from them. Feels like I've heard this a million times. POLAND: Yey Cleo is back. I can't understand how a woman with fine songs like this one and like '' Sztorm '' brought that slutty mess on Eurovision some years ago. DENMARK: Oh my God, is she the danish Kovacs? <3 Quality fun! AUSTRALIA: Pretty solid MOLDOVA: I think this is cute. Doesn't stand a chance though. |

Qf1
I've tried to theme my reviews again, hope you enjoy
.LEBANON A returning artist of mine ! This feels a bit dated, but its a strong ballad with a great hook.Research Project approved and partially funded. IRELAND Very standard indie fare. Its not very memorable unfortunately, and doesnt do much for me. Research Project temporarily put on hold in folder with several other similar projects. KOSOVO This is rather pleasant actually, very flat and uninteresting too though. Research Project approved for use in the facilitys elevator. SHETLAND ISLANDS Im not sure if I like this or find it very annoying. Its intriguing, but might need another listen. Research Project sent to work room for further research and discussion. ESTONIA This started off so well, but the chorus isnt too good and it turns more and more into a mess. Research Project discarded, copy sent to facilitys cleaning service. LIECHTENSTEIN A country this good doesnt need tenuous links. Much better than the DJ shit I expected though. Research Project approved, with the title to be revised (likely new title: LIE-chtenstein). SWITZERLAND She has a pretty voice and the song is very nice too, albeit a bit twee. Research Project approved to send to humanitarian organisation for their fundraising album. HUNGARY Predictable, mildly generic, but its catchy and it works so I dont have a lot to complain about. Research Project approved as a sub-branch of a project that exists since the facilitys opening. AZERBAIJAN This is a step down from some of her other songs, its a decent ballad but wont get very far. Research Project sold to unintelligent people, convincing them its worth the money. BELARUS A bit dated in sound too, but the drama to it really makes it work. Its a bit heavy though. Research Project added to extensive Past ESC Winners collection in facilitys library. BELGIUM This has been played on the radio a lot here, its decent, but its definitely no earworm. Research Project put on waiting list. Alice advised to go inside, as she might catch a cold waiting on the roof. ITALY Great that Lorenzos returned for justice after my NF failure with him, I still really like this. Research Project removed from dusty file, approved for publication. CYPRUS Nothing of hers will be as good as Aphrodisiac. This sounds like a million other Greek songs. Research Project discarded. Question "Is Cyprus doomed?" to be analysed by experts. SERBIA Disappointing by their standards, not too compelling, or maybe Im just tired of this QF by now. Research Project hidden from the Irish in the facility, sent back to origin. RUSSIA As far as Russian kids go, Nika was better. This only gets good in the last minute or so. Research Project sent to a humanitarian organisation to show them what not to put on their album. MONACO No to the electronic sound here, the rest of the song is nothing special either. Research Project sent to editing room to investigate possibilities of removing electronic beats. BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA This benefits from its draw. Most of the QF was a dirge, this is upbeat and fun at least. Research Project approved by tired employee. This employee was then fired. Not the greatest QF. |

QF3 Review
Macedonia:Not completely groundbreaking but this is pretty good. Especally for FYROM. Sweden: Not her (their?) best, but it's still okay. The verses are very meh but I really liked the chorus - similarly to DJ Ease My Mind. Iran: How uplifting. Also another Hockey sports song, yass. Not quite in the same league as 'Life is a Game' but still a good effort. I liked it. Armenia: Woaaaaaah. I'm use to party/uptempo great songs from Sirusho but this has slain my existence. From 2:20ish was literally incredible and she bosses those high notes. Really impressive. Aland Islands: Sorry I completely forgot about this song because I was so blown away by Arenia and then I was tapping away to Marina and just completely zoned out over this. Upon relistening, it wasn't great and I can see how it was forgettable. Greece: Not in the same league as some of her older stuff but easily the best of the stuff I've heard from her new album. Long awaited return for Marina! Luxembourg: After those lions and that gorilla the other day I can't cope with zoo's. :'( This song is too much too, also in a bad way. Austria: Woah I love this, she's so sassy in an Aminata cross with Zendaya kind of way. Stands out as being one of the best. Scotland: Aw the first Nina song I ever heard. Really like this but it's not one of her better songs. The chorus is pretty good though. Slovenia: Unpopular opinion on this forum but I think Maraaya sounds AWFUL. Sorry! Israel: Background music - not great sorry. Slovakia: Heard this a couple of weeks ago and was going to send it if I ever got Slovakia. Really good and has a kind of old-DSFE feel to it whilst being current and fresh. Faroe Islands: I like 5H (especially Camila slay queen) but this song is a bit mild. Much prefer some of their other songs. Camila's verse was HOT though. Poland: Cleo IS my favourite and there's nothing anybody can do about it to make me change my mind. Slavic girls 4 life. The song is pretty good too. Denmark: I'm off to Copenhagen tomorrow so I was ROOTING for Denmark to deliver but this is pretty horrid. Australia: I'm in two minds because it's okay but it doesn't take off and surely there is much better stuff for Australia? Basing it on the song ... it's only okay nothing better. I did thoroughly enjoy the video though - how intense. Moldova: This sounds like a really good example of a song that is pleasant but not worthy of being in a finalist. Think it may scrape through this round, but doubt it'll pass the Semi's. TOP FIVE: Armenia Greece Austria Slovakia Poland |

Quarter-final 3 Review
Macedonia - Why do I know the name Viktoria Loba? The song could have been alright, but the production is all wrong. In the chorus her voice is barely audible. Shame, as compositionally, its one of the most listenable Macedonian entries we've had.
Sweden - I quite like Niki and the Dove's quirky nature. The space-y (spatial?) blips that run through, however, I'm not so fond of. I really like her voice though. Iran - Nothing will ever beat the wonder that is Azizami, particularly when this is much more safe than that. Having said that, it's still quite a rousing little number at times, and her voice is rather strong on the higher notes. Armenia - While the artist is a fairly safe choice, it's refreshing to get the ballad side of Sirusho, as she does it rather well. It also grows really nicely throughout, but perhaps suffers from the lack of a video. Åland Islands - That kind of ethereal background music is losing its charm on me tbh. I also don't particularly like his voice, and it disappoints me that there's no vocal harmony between the two. Greece - I've personally lost interest in Marina and the Diamonds since The Family Jewels. It's not bad though, and it's probably one of the better of her newer songs that I've heard, I'm just sort of over Marina. Luxembourg - Even though this is from 2009, it feels older. I never really got into this kind of song either, so it's just passing me by. Austria - Those synth noises at the beginning (and throughout) are very reminiscent of the 80s, and it borders on the annoying on occasions. However, her voice is strong, and the clappy style drums are a welcome addition. Scotland - Nina Nesbitt has often passed me by a little, but I like the edge that this verses have. The bridge and the chorus are much more pretty, and don't interest me quite as much, even though they're still nice enough. Slovenia - Her voice still confuses me. Nice to see she's lost the headphones though. This is probably my favourite so far; the bassline is moreish, I'm getting used to her voice, and the melody is strong. Pity there's not a studio version yet though. Israel - The opening strings got me excited, but it doesn't really follow it up with anything quite as grand as I wanted. It plods along but doesn't do much for me. Slovakia - I quite like sung Slovak and I'm not really sure what about it it is that I like. As opposed to Israel, this is using its strings quite effectively, The melody of the verse sometimes meanders around without really getting there, but the chorus seems to have more of a purpose. Faroe Islands - I often find Fifth Harmony incredibly irritating. I only find this somewhat irritating. I don't know what it is about them, but I have no time for them. Poland - Cleo is one of the better things to have come out of Eurovision over the last few years imo. As far as her ballads are concerned, though, I much prefer Sztorm to this, which I see as being much more generic. Denmark - I have little time for this kind of song but it's not awful. Australia - While I feel like I've heard this numerous times before, it's strong in what it does. Moldova - Another song which suffers from The Four Chord Syndrome, it's nonetheless surprisingly pleasant, particularly for a song from Moldova. QF 1 is still my favourite.
